For 86 years, Al lived a full life. Among many things, he loved to practice "the art of medicine" in his family medicine clinic on Woodrow Wilson in West Bloomfield, where he served his patients for over 50 years. He was enamored by the game of golf, always looking for a way to improve his swing, and was a long-time member of Edgewood Country Club in Commerce Township. He enjoyed meditating into the piano and liked to surprise people with his fluency in French.
Al was an expert at "living in the moment" and, without wavering, he found and appreciated beauty in everything and everyone. He was kind and generous and, like Will Rogers, he never met a man (or woman) that he didn't like, especially on the golf course. Above all, his love for his children and grandchildren was boundless, and over the years he would do whatever he could to attend their shows, concerts, games, or just spend a lazy Sunday afternoon in their company.
Al was devoted to community service. He was a fervent supporter of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and helped found the Danny Thomas St. Jude Celebrity Golf Invitational. As an adjunct professor of family medicine at the Michigan State University School of Osteopathic Medicine, he welcomed medical students into his office and passionately taught osteopathic manipulation. He was also an ardent supporter of the arts and for decades was a season ticket holder to many of Metro Detroit's theatre and concert venues.
Al is survived by his son, Aaron (Jennifer); daughter, Miriam (John Engstrom); step-daughter, Marilyn Rottner; five grandchildren: Colin, Leah, Miles, Sophie, and Ian; his beloved siblings: Carmen Shepler, Ramona Ford, Larry Yezbick, Victor Yezbick, and the late Donald Yezbick; and many adored nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in September.
