Mrs. Birkes died Oct. 7, 2012, in Killeen. She was born Dec. 1, 1942, in Flower Bluff. She was a tumor registrar at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center.
Mrs. Birkes was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Birkes.
Survivors include a son, Clyde C. Birkes; a daughter, Shauna Birkes, both of Killeen; brothers, Gene Evans of Corpus Christi and Jimmy Evans of Alabama; and a sister, Vna May Lundmark of Mather.
Memorials may be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter of Killeen.
