Irene Evelyn Wall

Irene was born on February 4, 1932 to Charles and Fannie Guede in Seaton, Texas. She was preceded in death by her sister, Loriene and her brother, Charles.

After graduating high school, she had a dream of traveling the world, so she sailed to Hawaii. She enjoyed the island so much she stayed and worked at the Post Exchange managing the men’s clothing department. After being away too long from her family she decided to return home to Texas. She was able to continue with her same job and transferred to base at Fort Hood, where she would meet the love of her life. On August 5, 1962, Richard and Irene held a military wedding at the chapel on base of Fort Hood.

Two years later, while stationed in Germany, Irene gave birth to their only child, John. Over the years Richard received military assignments that would eventually take him to Viet Nam and leave Irene and John at their home in Harker Heights.

While waiting for Richard to return home, Irene was raising John and making lifelong friends. Irene’s outgoing personality never allowed her to meet a stranger. She enjoyed taking girls trips to Las Vegas, playing bridge and bingo. She had a passion for helping others and devoted 40 volunteered years to the American Red Cross, where she was honored with several awards, even including volunteer of the year.

Coupled with her love for people she had an immense desire to care for animals. Irene loved to hop in her car and drive around town finding abandoned cats to feed, and it was often Richard would come home to find yet another stray dog in the backyard. Three of Irene’s favorite pets where her cats, Lucky and Pumpkin and her Parakeet, Sparky.

Irene lived a life full of selfless acts and compassion for others. She was a devoted mother and wife and friend to many.

A graveside service for Irene will be held Friday, January 21, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX - 195, Killeen, Texas.
