Gurvey was born on March 16, 1934 in Eunice, Louisiana.
He served four years in the US Marine Corps and four years in the US Marine Corps Reserves. He then served in the US Army and retired a SGT after serving 26 years. After his retirement, he worked Civil Service at DPW on Fort Hood for 15 years. He was honored with multiple awards during his time of service.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Guidry Matte, who he married November 30, 1957.

Robert Charles Matte Wife Judy, Children: Amber Nichole, Heath Matte and his wife Amanda, Leath Matte and his wife Mandi, Hector Ruiz and his wife Kim, Ryan Ruiz, and Katie Ruiz
Christopher Mark Matte Children: Amanda Vasquez.
Deborah Anne (Annie) Haun, Children: Clinton Snuffy Earl Haun, Jr, and his wife Kayla, James Gurvey Haun, and Clannie Cyle Haun.
Nanette Marie Tobin Husband Jody, Children: Lauren Taylor Palousek, Chloe Clarissa Palousek, Jamee Jeanette Palousek.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Ophey Pierre and Elena Matte of Crowley, Louisiana and five brothers and sisters. He is survived by one brother, John H. Matte from Ebenezer, Louisiana and one sister, Nettie Jean Courville from New Iberia, Louisiana.
He was a longtime member of the Santa Rosa Catholic Church in Andice, Texas.
