Born May 1, 1950, in Long Beach, California, Loretta was the beloved daughter of Robert and Mary McCamey and the youngest of their four children. She grew up in Waco, Texas, where her love of family and sense of community first took root.
Loretta was known for her warmth, generosity, and the way she made everyone feel at home. She never met a stranger, and her heart and door were always open. Over the years, she and her husband Jeffrey Robert Nelson welcomed many families, friends, and loved ones into their home — offering a place to stay, a warm meal, or simply the comfort of belonging. Loretta had a gift for bringing people together and turning everyday moments into cherished memories filled with laughter and love.
Loretta and Jeff were blessed with three children — Shannon Bechard, Jeffrey Robert Nelson II., and Christopher John Nelson — each of whom she loved with all her heart. When Shannon passed away too soon in 1995, Loretta was devastated and never stopped missing her. She lovingly kept Shannon’s bedroom just as it was — a quiet reflection of the deep, enduring bond between mother and daughter.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Jeffrey Robert Nelson Sr.; her sons: Jeffrey Robert Nelson Jr.
Christopher John Nelson, married to Lisa Wyatt Nelson, and their children — Daniel Allen Dominic Nelson (22), Jada Brooke Nelson (21), and Luke Alexander Nelson (18).
Loretta is also survived by her sister, Mary Reyna, and was deeply loved by her many nieces and nephews, along with their children. “Aunt Loretta” was a steady, loving presence in their lives — someone who celebrated their joys, offered comfort in hard times, and made each of them feel special.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Shannon Bechard; her parents, Robert and Mary Martha McCamey; and her brothers, Robin McCamey and Bruce McCamey.
A Memorial Service celebrating Loretta’s life will be held in Killeen, Texas, at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home on Monday, October 27, 2025 at 1:00 pm.
Loretta Lynn Nelson will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her open heart, love for family, and lifelong generosity leave behind a legacy that will continue to touch lives for years to come.
