Lucy Hamilton Harris

It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Lucy “Lucia” Harris, who departed this life at the age of 84 on January 1, 2026, while vacationing in Washington, DC.

Lucy was born on December 13, 1941, in the Dominican Republic. She later made her home in New York and lived a life defined by devotion to family, and resilience. As a military spouse, she traveled extensively, embracing new places and experiences while always creating a warm and welcoming home wherever she lived.

She retired from Civil Service employment and thoroughly enjoyed her retirement years traveling, gardening, and decorating her home, activities that reflected her creativity, care, and love of beauty.

Lucy was a devoted mother and is survived by her five beloved daughters, Sharon Collins, Lisa Freeman, Toni Harris-Rowland, Tina Lutz and Robin Diaz, who were the pride and joy of her life.

She was preceded in death by her father, Miquel Hamilton, Sr., her mother, Altagracia Melandez Hamilton, and her brother, Miquel Hamilton, Jr. She is survived by her two sisters, Jane Talley and Sara Colbert.

Lucy was a cherished grandmother to her eight grandchildren, Shaun Tennessee, Mercedez Freeman, Chelsey Rowland, Dominic Lutz, Stephine Lutz, Wesley Diaz, Aaron Diaz, and Dallas Diaz. She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren, Semaja, Zoe, Ariel, Brielle, Trinity, Micah, Ezra, and Ayra.

She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as an extensive and loving family in the Dominican Republic, including her aunt and many dear relatives. Lucy also maintained many long-time friendships, staying closely connected with dear friends throughout Texas, across the United States, and in Europe.

Lucy “Lucia” Harris will be deeply missed and forever cherished. Her legacy of love, strength, and family devotion lives through all who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Monday, January 19, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 1615 South Fort Hood Road, Killeen, Texas, 76542.
