

Mr. Tafoya retired from the U.S. Army after 26 years of service and retired from Civil Service. While serving in the military, he received the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), Korean Service Medal w/4 Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal w/Clasp, Silver, 2 Loops, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/3 Bronze Service Stars, Sharpshooter (Rifle), Republic of Vietnam Medal and the Bronze Star Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster.
Mr. Tafoya was a member of this community for 40 years, a member of Grace Lutheran Church, The Lions Club, DAV and VFW. In 1999 and 2002, he was the volunteer of the year at Darnall Pharmacy. Mr. Tafoya coached little league, women's softball and was a member of the Ellison Booster Club.
Mr. Tafoya was preceded in death by his wife, Jane.
Survivors include his sons, Wayne Tafoya and Keith Tafoya; stepsons, Roger Hollandsworth and Charles Hollandsworth; grandson, Matthew Tafoya; granddaughters, Frances Tafoya and Teresa Scheafnocker; and brothers, Henry Tafoya and Lawrence Tafoya; eight other grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church it the name of Jane and Manuel Tafoya.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church in Killeen.
