Margaret Dunlap, 100, of Killeen, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, surrounded by the love and legacy she so beautifully created throughout her life. Margaret often shared her heartfelt goal of living to be 100 years old, and with grace, strength, laughter, and unwavering perseverance, she fulfilled that dream.
She was born on May 25, 1925, in Pasewalk, Germany. A woman of remarkable resilience, Margaret lived through the hardships of World War II, emerging with a spirit defined by courage and hope. It was during her time working at the NCO Club in Germany that she met the love of her life, Newman K. Dunlap. Their bond grew into a lasting partnership, and they were married in 1957. In 1960, Margaret journeyed to the United States to begin a new chapter by his side.
As the devoted wife of a soldier, Margaret embraced a life of movement and adventure, living in Kansas, Arkansas, and Massachusetts before settling in Central Texas in 1965 when Newman was transferred to Fort Hood. From that moment on, Killeen became her cherished home, where she built a life filled with warmth, creativity, and community.
Margaret found great joy in the simple and beautiful things in life. She was incredibly talented and took pride in her many crafts, including cake decorating, tole painting, wood carving, crocheting, and knitting. She also delighted in playing Bingo, where her laughter and lively spirit were felt by all who knew her. Her hands were rarely still, and her creations, like her life, were made with love and care.
She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Barbara Gonzalez, and son-in-law Gonzalo; and her two beloved grandchildren, Sarah and Carter, who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Margaret was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Newman K. Dunlap, as well as her parents and siblings: Heinrich Tobner, Irmgard Engler, Edith Panknin, Margot Muller, and Eva Imroth. Though she outlived many she loved, she carried them with her always, holding their memories close.
A visitation will be held at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home on April 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will take place at Killeen Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m.
Margaret’s life was a testament to resilience, devotion, and love. She will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
