

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Staff Sergeant Oliver Darnell York, Sr., 84, of Killeen, Texas. He passed away on January 14, 2026, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer, kidney failure, diabetes, and dementia.
Born to the late Herman York, Sr. and Alberta York Andrews, SSGT York was a highly decorated member of the United States Armed Forces, honorably serving his country for 20 years. His distinguished career included numerous awards, notably the Purple Heart, Air Medal, and Combat Infantryman Badge. Following his military service, he dedicated 15 years to 1st National Bank.
Oliver attended Hitchcock High School, Wiley College, and Paul Quinn College. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he played baseball, football, and basketball, and pursued Canadian football with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He also enjoyed bowling and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Johnny Boone, Lester Boone, William York, John York, Bobby York, and Norma Andrews.
He is survived by his wife, Alice York; his children, Edward Shaw, Timothy Shaw, Michelle Baker, Shawn York, and Oliver York Jr.; and his siblings, Herman York, Jr., Ruby Turner, Helen Crooks, Larry York, William Andrews, Michael Andrews, Laura Andrews, and Alicia Senegal. His legacy also lives on through his many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, including Mr. Grady and Warthena Cox and family.
SSGT York will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and proud serviceman whose commitment to honor and family will remain in our hearts forever.
Visitation will be held at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas, on February 5, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. The funeral service will follow at the same location, starting at 11:30 am.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas, on February 5, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
