Catherine “Cathy” Ann Sedlak was born on May 14, 1950 to Clarence and Catherine Flaherty Christ in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Penn Hills High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
On December 18, 1970, Cathy married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, John M. Sedlak. Together they had three beloved children. John’s career as an Architect/Transportation Specialist took them to State College, PA, Atlanta, GA, and Kingwood, TX. Over her 40-year career as a Registered Nurse, Cathy worked in many departments including Labor and Delivery, IV Team, Emergency Room, Family Practice, Surgical Recovery, and Surgical Pre-Assessment.
Cathy loved to travel, cook, read, see movies, and spend time with her seven grandchildren and friends. Together with her husband, she created a welcoming home full of love, laughter, and the smell of freshly baked desserts. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Martha Catholic Church for 35 years. It is fitting that Cathy died on June 6, D-Day. Her father, a brave member of the US Navy and Landing Craft sailor, transported many soldiers under intense enemy fire during the US invasion of Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944.
She is survived by her husband John Sedlak; children, Kelly (Duncan) Rhodes, Michael (Allison) Sedlak, and Rachel (John) Nicholson; grandchildren; Katherine and Rebecca Rhodes, Caroline and Elizabeth Sedlak, John Christopher, Austin, and Hunter Nicholson. Catherine was also the loving sister of James Christ, Thomas Christ, Michael Christ, Ann Kearney, and Edward Christ, and loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
Cathy is preceded in death by her brother Robert Christ and her parents.
