He was born to the late John and Margaret Hirschhorn on September 19, 1938 in Hempstead, New York during The Great Hurricane of 1938. How appropriate! From an early age he learned the values of hard work as he grew up in the family grocery store alongside his brother Karl and sister Jani. Jack married his high school sweetheart Joan (Terri) Defreitas on June 29, 1956. They had three children, Bonnie, Jack, and Stephen. His family grew and prospered in Long Island, New York.
Jack became a Boar’s Head distributor in 1958. According to his high school yearbook quote “My ambition is to be a success in whatever I do. Circumstances? I make circumstances.” Therefore, looking for a bigger challenge, Jack and his brother Karl took Boar’s Head to Houston, Texas in 1980. Boy did they make it happen!
Jack loved and adored his 9 grandkids; Cassy, Jessica, Zachary, John, Justin, Matthew, Jared, Jacqueline and Gabriel. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, weekly poker games with the guys and was an active member of the Lion’s Club. Above all, Jack loved being around family and friends and always loved to tell a good joke or two.
