Obituary of Joseph Stephen Dragonetti
Joseph Stephen Dragonetti passed away on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2022. Joe was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on May 15, 1940. Filled with wisdom that he easily shared, he influenced the lives of many people, and even the briefest encounter left a meaningful impression. A loving husband, caring father and grandfather, a trusted confidant and a dear friend will be sorely missed. Joe attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Saugus, Massachusetts and graduated high school in 1957. He received an undergraduate degree in Chemistry at Boston College and received a master’s degree in Chemistry from Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts. He joined Shell Chemical Company in 1962 as a chemist at the Dominguez, California chemical plant. He enjoyed an illustrious career at Shell where colleagues became life-long friends. He married the “love of his life,” Betty, in California on December 1, 1962. His love for Betty grew every single day, and they renewed their vows on their 50th wedding anniversary in Houston in 2012. Joe and Betty enjoyed a rare and deep commitment that will endure. An avid reader and traveler, with a spirit for adventure and knowledge, Joe consumed books and visited over forty different countries. He made friends all over the world that he maintained for a lifetime. Family served as his beacon, and he enjoyed celebrating everyday life with the people he loved. He is preceded in death by his parents Camille Joseph Dragonetti and Gertrude Elizabeth Phipps Dragonetti and his brother Mark Richard Dragonetti. He is survived by his wife Betty Jane Jayroe Dragonetti, daughter Lea Ann Dragonetti Parker and her husband Joseph Preston Neumeyer, son Jeff Steven Dragonetti, daughter Jill Susan Dragonetti, and granddaughter Samantha Claire Parker Commander and her husband Richard Cole Commander. A memorial service will be held at Kingwood Funeral Home on Friday, January 7, 2022, at 2:00 PM at 22800 Highway 59 North, Kingwood, Texas 77339. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to The Mended Hearts, Inc. at in Joe’s name or the charity of your choice. The Dragonetti family wishes to thank all those who have outpoured love and prayers and provided strength.
