

Julio was born in Scranton, PA on January 6th, 1927. His mother Liduina (Carrera) succumbed to an illness and died in 1928. Julio, together with his older brother Antonio, and his sister Maria, were sent to Portugal to be raised and cared for by their grandparents. His father, Manuel Marques continued to work in Scranton, PA and then in Newark, NJ, supporting the children from afar until their return to the USA in 1944.
Julio was drafted in to the U.S. Army soon after his arrival back in the USA. There he served in various assignments during the late stages of WWII in Germany, serving primarily with the Army of the Occupation. He was recognized as a skilled rifle marksman and received a medal for his proficiency.
After honorable discharge from the military, he rejoined his father, brother, and sister in Newark, NJ. He worked at several post-war jobs. In 1947 he became employed by the Public Service Electric and Gas Company, where he remained employed as a maintenance mechanic until his retirement in 1987.
In 1950 he married Vitalina. In 1954 they purchased a home in Union NJ and raised their family there. Julio is survived by his son (Jason) and daughter-in-law Denise Marques who both reside in Kingwood Texas, and by his daughter (Diane) and son-in-law William Oswald who both reside in Chula Vista, CA. Surviving grandchildren include Jenna and Aaron Marques; and Elena (Lozano) and Andrew Oswald. Surviving great-grandchildren include Luke and Dylan Marques and Isabella Lozano.
Vitalina Marques (73), his loving spouse of 54 years preceded Julio in death on May 31, 2004 while they resided together in the San Diego, CA area.
Interment will be at the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at Point Loma, San Diego, CA.
No flowers please, however donations would be welcome by the Alzheimer’s Association.
