Katherine Angela Capizzi Meyer, “Kathy”, the heart of her family, passed away on August 5th, 2024, in Houston, TX. The daughter of Anthony and Rose Capizzi, Kathy was born on June 20th, 1955, in Pittsburgh, PA. Her life was filled with love for all those she met, people and animals included. Kathy loved life, worked hard, and truly wanted to make the world a better place. She loved animals and was always adopting cats or rescuing animals in need.
In 1975, Kathy’s mother introduced her to William (Bill) Meyer at a wedding, and the two began dating soon after. Their relationship withstood distance and time as Kathy completed law school at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and Bill completed graduate school at the College of William of William of Mary. Kathy moved to Houston to be with Bill in 1980 when she graduated from law school. They married in 1982 and moved into their first home in Gretna, Louisiana.
While in Louisiana, they had two daughters, Nicole and Lindsay, before moving to Chicago in 1989 and settling permanently in Houston in 1992.
Choosing motherhood and her family over her law career, Kathy worked as an accountant for more than 30 years. She picked her children up every day from school, cooked a delicious dinner for her family every night, and took care of all the needs of her family without complaint. Her love of animals continued into her family, as a dog and many cats found their forever homes with the Meyers over the years.
Kathy’s family loved spending time with her. Her daughters were always happy when she showed up for school events, and the closeness of their relationship continued into adulthood as they found new activities to do together. Bill was home every night for dinner and appreciated the quiet moments at home watching television and catching up on the day. The family remained close over the years, taking memorable vacations to Gulf Shores, AL, Hawaii, and (many times) Walt Disney World.
A friend to all who knew her, Kathy enjoyed volunteering and giving back. She provided accounting services to Volunteers for Animal Protection (VAP) and the Discalced Carmelite Nuns over the years, developing and maintaining lasting bonds with those organizations. For Kathy, what mattered most was leaving a situation better than she found it.
Kathy’s memory will be forever honored by her husband of 42 years William and daughters Nicole and Lindsay. She is survived by brothers Jim, Tony, sister Chrissy (Keith) Summers and their children Abby, Rachel and Keith, as well as nieces and nephews and their families Dennis, Jessica, and Tony Capizzi. Kathy is predeceased by her brother, the late Mike Capizzi.
Service information for Kathy will be forthcoming as her family decides how best to honor her life.
Kathy’s life was a beautiful compilation of strength, kindness, compassion and above all, everlasting love. While her passing broke the hearts of her family and friends, she will always be remembered for her kind heart, beautiful smile, and amazing sense of humor.
