MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
Jody was the eldest child of George Verlan Bradshaw and Kathryn Veronica Bradshaw and was
born in September 1944 in Camden, New Jersey. Jody graduated from Albert Einstein Medical
Center, Philadelphia, with a certificate in nursing and went on to pursue accreditation as a
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) from Thomas Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia,
graduating in 1969. She would go on to have a distinguished 45-year career at Methodist
Hospital in Houston, Texas, St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois, a return to Methodist
when the Family moved back to Texas, then Texas Orthopedic Hospital in Houston, Texas
where she spent the last decades of her career. Jody loved working as a nurse anesthetist
because it gave her the ability to positively impact people’s lives. That genuine care is what
made her exceptionally well regarded by her co-workers. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge
with new nurse anesthetists and working with some of the top surgeons and other medical
professionals in the Texas Medical Center before retiring in 2015.
Jody married Charles James “Chuck” McHugh in the Spring of 1969 in Levittown, Pennsylvania.
Jody and Chuck had three children: Michael Sean McHugh, Brian David McHugh and Kerry
Ellen Spetter.
Jody was a devout catholic and member of the congregation at St. Mary Magdalene’s parish in
Humble, Texas. She took an active role in the church by serving at varying times on the liturgical
committee, as a eucharistic minister, lector and through various organizations at St. Mary’s
including catholic daughters and their several charities.
Jody had several hobbies outside of work. She loved cooking and trying out new recipes. She
was well known for her baking prowess both among her family and coworkers who were
frequent beneficiaries of her craft. She also enjoyed gardening as evidenced by the lush and
verdant backyard at her and Chuck’s home. Jody loved seeing the different species of birds that
would swoop through her backyard and she had a particular fondness for hummingbirds and
bluebirds. She loved photography, always looking for the right light, right angle and composition
for each shot. She loved to share her pictures after every trip as a way of “traveling” with her
loved ones.
Jody is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Chuck, their children Michael and his wife
Donna, Brian and his wife Amber and Kerry and her husband Jeremy as well as her siblings
George, David and Mary. She is also survived by their grandchildren Alex and Hudson McHugh
and Teygan and Sawyer Spetter, all whom she adored.
It is impossible to fully capture the life of someone as loving and vibrant as Jody in an obituary.
Those who knew her understand this to be true. We will miss her wit, wisdom and caring nature
and she will be ever present in our hearts and memories.
