Marian "Shirley" Hollifield (Carpenter) passed peacefully surrounded by love and her family at her home in Humble Texas on February 10, 2024. Shirley was born in Gary Indiana on October 29, 1963 to Marion & Edith Carpenter.
In childhood Shirley could be found learning how to work on cars with her dad, learning how to cook from her mom, and tagging along with her siblings.
Shirley met the love of her life Chris in 1982. They married in 1986 and raised two children in Valparaiso Indiana. Shirley earned her MBA from Argosy University in 2018. Her love for learning and teaching was something she and her family were very proud of. Her Grand daughter Olivia will tell you her Mamawl was the smartest person she knows. Shirley dedicated her career to Ivy Tech where she had over 20 years of service doing everything from clerical to teaching in her time with them.
Shirley was a faithful servant of our lord. Before moving to Texas in 2020 Shirley was a member at Real Life Community Church of the Nazarene in Portage Indiana. Her love for the Lord was evident in all stages of her life. Her Bible sat beside her where she would read daily. She spoke the gospel in to her family, and would watch sermons on TV when she was unable to attend in person.
Shirley was a loving Wife, Mother, and a doting Grandmother. Her grandchildren Olivia, and Thomas (TJ) were the light in her life. She loved being a Mamawl, and bragged on her grandbabies as often as she could. She loved cooking, traveling with her family, sewing and crocheting, her dogs, going to Buccees, listening to music, reading her bible, and Christmas.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Marion & Edith Carpenter, her brother Donnie Carpenter, and Niece Amy Easter. She is survived by her husband Christopher Hollifield, Daughter Shirley (Thomas) Trunick, Son Derek (Ashlee) Hollifield. Grand Children Olivia & Thomas (TJ) Trunick, Sister Donna (Kevin) Garner and Sister Charlotte (Jesse) Cuevas. She is also survived by numerous sister in laws, brother in laws, Nieces, Nephews, and great Nieces and Nephews.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date in her home state of Indiana. In lieu of flowers the family is asking you to consider donating to Real Life Community Church of the Nazarene in Portage Indiana in Shirley's name.
