Mary Caspersen Iacono died peacefully in her sleep on February 2, 2026 at the age of 76. Born on May 23, 1949 in Houston, Texas, she was the fourth child born to Donia Adele Phelan and Charles Anthony Caspersen Jr. She loved growing up in a big family, with 13 siblings and had countless stories of life at 1902 Kipling. She graduated from St. Agnes Academy and attended the University of St. Thomas. After her time at St. Thomas, she went into nursing. While working at St. Joseph’s Hospital, she had a patient who insisted she meet his son. A few years later that patient became her father-in-law. In 1973, she married Vito “Vic” Iacono Jr. and had two children. She spent her career as “Nurse Mary” working in Pediatrics for Dr. Stuart Cohan. She cherished her time working with Dr. Stu and his staff. She was often recognized by adults who remembered her from their childhood. Mary was a dedicated wife and mother. She never missed a baseball game, football game, basketball game, drill team performance, softball game, musical performance, choir performance or field trip. For over three decades, she looked forward to her Wednesday nights with her Theresian sisters and volunteering as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Albert’s Catholic Church. She was a lover of books, music, margaritas, Snickers, Chinese food and countless hours of Law & Order SVU.
Mary was a cancer and stroke survivor. She truly did optimize strength through adversity. She was tested countless times over the years and never wavered in her faith and commitment to our Lord and Savior.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Vic Iacono; her parents Charlie and Donia Caspersen; sister Colleen Kavanaugh; brothers Charles III “Cas” and Kevin Caspersen; nephews (Godson) Chuck Jamail and Charlie Caspersen; and her trusted four legged companion of many years, Sadie.
She is survived by her daughter Amy Bergman (Scott) and son Vito Iacono III (Jenny); dear nephews Rocco Hard (Laarni), Scooter Iacono and her favored five who called her Mimi: Charlotte Bergman, Vincent and Joseph Iacono, and Samuel and Matthew Hard. Mary is also survived by siblings Kathy Jamail (Jimmy), Candace Caspersen, Cindy Dewan (Mike), Doni Crouch (Jimmy), Carol Moffett, Judi Sanderson (Lee), Stephen Caspersen (Julie), Cecelia Myers (Tom), John Caspersen (Tami), Elizabeth Cashiola (Paul), and many treasured nieces and nephews.
