Robbye Lee was born February 11, 1929 to parents Louise Johnson Hammond and Patrick Conley Hammond. She and her sister Pattye Lou, were raised by their Aunt Bessie McBryde and her husband Robert E. Lee McBryde, lovingly referred to, as simple Auntie and Uncle. In their younger years, the family residence was Moonshine Hill, Humble, Texas.
Robbye attended Humble schools her entire life, graduating from Humble High School in 1946. While in High School. She served as cheerleader and drum major. All throughout her life, she was known for her beautiful signature smile, happy heart, warm personality and godly character. She loved others unconditionally, and they loved her right back.
Robbye met the love of her life, Julius Lee, when she was 19 years old. She was working at the ice cream shop on Main Street in Humble, and Julius was the milk man. Robbye wasn’t even working that day, but Julius was such a cutie, that her boss called her in on her day off and …the rest is history! They were married less than 3 months later on Robbye’s birthday. Julius was so good looking that Robbye said she couldn’t dare let him go, and she never did. They remained married until his death, March 29, 2012. Robbye and Julius were blessed with four children, Geneva Lee Adamski and husband Adam, Linda Gayle Lee, Patrick Leroy Lee and wife Diana, and baby Julie Ann Lee. They also parented two others, Chip Philips Conner and Tonnie Hughes Geiser, loving them like their own.
Robbye retired from Houston Lighting and Power Company after working there for over 20 years as Office Manager. She loved her job and the friends that she made while working there. After retirement, Robbye and Julius made Matagorda their home for many years and that is where our family made some of the best memories of our lives. Their grandchildren and great grandchildren recall spending many of their very best times with Gingging and Papaw, on the Colorado River in Matagorda. There were times when Gingging had all 7 grandchildren running wild, and we can remember one day in particular when she made 12 grilled cheese sandwiches for them!
As the years rolled on, and they began having health issues, Darlin, which was Robbye’s name for Julius, decided they should move back home to Humble, in to their little home they still owned, and had married in almost 60 years before. That’s where they finished their lives here on Earth, close to their family and friends, and among their wonderful neighbors they loved so dearly.
As a young girl, Robbye received Jesus Christ as her personal savior. It was her faith in Him, that helped carry her though the most tumultuous times in her childhood, and there were many. As a mother, she set such a wonderful example, raising her children to know, revere and love the Lord. Later as a grandmother, she was the reason several of her grandchildren came to know Jesus and serve Him faithfully today. Robbye was a member of Deerbrook Baptist Church from it’s inception in 1982, until the day she went home to be with the Lord.
Our family would like to recognize and thank Kingwood Memory Café and Assisted Living for their excellent care of our beloved mother and grandmother for the last 7 months of her life. We thank them for the love, concern and genuine compassion they showed towards each member of our family. We are forever grateful.
