I am so sorry to learn of the loss of Roger, who I remember from many years ago as being funny, happy and such a people person when Clay and our daughter Jenny were in high school at KHS. Your family must have been through so much, I am so sorry I did not know what you were dealing with, but know he is in God's hands now, the great Physician, singing praises, walking and exploring and watching over his dear family.
May all the happy memories soon replace the sadness in your hearts you feel today.

Roger Campbell's granddaughter, Victoria Dalton wrote this speech :                                            Why My Grandpa Matters


My name is Victoria Catherine Dalton. I was born on May 21, 2000, and that was the day I first met my Grandpa.

My grandpa’s name is Roger Campbell, and he is the greatest grandpa in the world. Not only is he my “grandpa” but he has been a “daddy” to me since I was born. When I was a baby, my mom, brother and I lived with my Grandma and Grandpa for a while.

My parents were divorced, so when I woke up in the middle of the night my Grandpa would sometimes get up with me, give me a bottle and rock me to sleep. Sometimes, I did not go to sleep right away; and my mom and grandma told me that they would tell grandpa to go back to sleep and they would stay up with me. Grandpa would tell them that I was worth more than a few more hours of sleep even though he had to get up early in the morning to go to work.
 
I remember when I was two years old, my Grandpa would go outside with me on the patio, and I would conduct singing competitions. The patio was our stage; of course he did not sing. He just made silly sounds, but I knew he was doing that on purpose so that I would win every time. I didn’t say anything to him because I loved when he would tell me that I was the winner.

When I was three years old, I would play school with Grandpa, and I was the teacher. Papa was my student. I would give him tests and always give him an F for his grade. My Grandpa would play along with his bad grade so that I could teach him more. 

Then, when I was four years old, I really liked to play with my Barbie dolls. My Grandpa would always play Barbie dolls with me. You could tell he really did not know how to play dolls and probably was not having fun, but I was. 

When I was five years old, all I wanted to do was ride my Barbie jeep. Papa would watch me of course and make sure that I was safe.

 When I turned six years old, I got a karaoke machine for Christmas. I was back to singing and performing like I did when I was two years old. So, my poor Grandpa was back again, singing with me on the microphone. This time, he sang instead of making silly sounds just to make me laugh and let me win. This was now a true competition to find out which one of us sang the best.   Grandpa did win a few competitions; after all, he did know more songs than I did. 

Well, we left behind singing contests, me being his teacher, and him pretending to be the bad student. We left behind playing Barbie dolls together, and me riding in my Barbie jeep.  I am now ten years old, and he seems older too; so we do other things together. 

Grandpa took me, Grandma, Mama, and my brother on our first trip to Disney. He had never been to Disney even as a kid, and boy did we have fun! Grandpa also showed us our first “real” beach (as he calls it) the next year in Destin, Florida with the white sand and beautiful green water.  We stayed a week and had so much fun in the surf, building sand castles, and watching 
Grandpa try to stand up and fall when the big waves knocked him down. But the best part of all was when Grandpa surprised me. My mom, my brother, and I had a private swim with the dolphins.  I will never forget doing that as long as I live. The smile on Grandpa’s face as he watched us with the dolphins was full of joy. 

My grandpa is now very sick, and our playing with toys and taking adventures is no longer possible.  Grandpa has ALS, which is an abbreviation for Lou Gerhig’s disease, and he is totally disabled.  I often spend days with him at his and Grandma’s house on weekends or during my Christmas holidays. 

I am trying to take care of Grandpa just like he took care of me when I was a little girl, and until he recently became ill. Now I sing to him again, not in competition, but in the silly way he used to sing to me, just to make him laugh. 

Grandpa has a hard time holding things, so I help him in any way that I can. I even give him shots. He can hardly speak anymore because his speech is hard to understand; but I always seem to know what he is trying to tell me, or I just figure it out. Maybe it is because we have spent so much time together all of my life.    

When Jesus calls my grandpa to be in Heaven with Him, I will remember “There are three things that will endure - faith, hope and love—and the greatest of these is love”.

Roger was an amazing man.  I've had the pleasure of meeting Roger many years ago when he started seeing Dr. Campbell for chiropractic care.  He always brightened up the office with his presence.  He will be missed but he is in a better place now no more suffering.  My thoughts and prayers are with the Campbell Family during this time of need.

At this sad time we are filled with memories of going to school with Roger.  We thank God that his body is renewed in Christ and free from its earthly pain.   LaGrange HS '61

I met Roger at Campbell Chiropractic as a patient. He was always funny and enjoyable and we loved when he came in. Thru Roger we have gotten to know his Family also and have enjoyed their friendship as well as his.
    Loosing a Father, husband, best friend , uncle ,cousin is never easy but Roger is now in heaven and out of pain, We will miss you Roger but will one day see you again and we can laugh again

Roger Campbell, was a amazing man and he was always in good spirits.  He always knew how to make you laugh and would have a different story to tell everytime I saw him. He was so kind and sweet and reminded me of my Grandfather. I will cherish the short time I knew him and the fond memories we had together.

My condolences to the family of the passing of our dear friend who suffered greatly and is now at peace. God Bless you Rog.

Roger Alec Campbell, my father, was the most amazing father a girl could ever hope for... He was not only my father, but my teacher, my friend, and my biggest fan.  His support through my life has been more than I could have ever expected.  He gave me the courage to dream and the confidence to follow them!  I am so grateful to him for so many things, he will always have a special place in my heart and in my life.   I love you daddy.
