

Sonja Ann (McGucken) Wait, a beloved, kind-hearted, brave, hard-working, loyal, patient, and selfless soul, passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 52. Born on October 28, 1972, in Merriam, Kansas, Sonja moved to Kingwood, Texas, as a young child, where she would leave a lasting impact on her community.
Sonja attended Woodland Hills Elementary, Kingwood Middle School and Kingwood High School, graduating in 1992. Sonja was affectionately known as "Coach" during her time in the Kingwood High School Band (KM4B), a testament to her leadership and ability to keep everyone in line. She continued her education at Lone Star College in Kingwood and Sam Houston State University.
Her career included assignments for The Houston Chronicle and a seven-year tenure as an infant daycare teacher at La Petite Academy, where she earned the Keys Of Life for 5 years of dedicated service. Sonja's dedication extended beyond her professional life; she was a Cub Scout Den Leader and served the Trail Association for 15 years. Her commitment to her community was further demonstrated through her role as the Webmaster for the HOA/Trails.
Sonja cherished her family deeply. She married her husband, Steven Wait, on July 11, 1997. Together, they had a son, Christopher, who sadly passed away in 2012. Sonja was preceded in death by her parents, Richard "Dick" McGucken and Christine Hanson McGucken. She will forever missed by her husband of 29 years, Steven, her brother-in-law, C.F. "Jeb" Wait (Amberley) and her nieces and nephew, Audrey, Cole, and Amelia, and a host of other family and friends.
In her personal time, Sonja enjoyed crochet, gardening, music, and arts and crafts, showcasing her creative spirit. Her hobbies reflected her vibrant personality and her love for creating beauty in the world around her.
A Celebration of Life and Reception will be held in her honor at Kingwood Funeral Home, located at 22800 Highway 59 North, Kingwood, TX 77339, on August 16, 2025, starting at 2:00 pm.
Sonja Ann (McGucken) Wait will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, bravery, and dedication to her family and community. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her.
