She was born in England to a prosperous and civic-minded family and at 8 years presented the scissors to Lord Ullswater to open the Colchester Bypass. In her teens, the family adopted an older brother Otto who came to the UK by Kindertransport of Jewish children from Austria just before the Second World War.
She trained in London as a Physiotherapist. She married John Dacre a psychiatrist, who she met when they were training at St. Thomas’ Hospital. They were married for 68 years and were best friends to the end, she said she was never bored in his company. They both travelled all through their lives and after adopting Roger, Annabel and Tania they moved to Barbados, where she worked as a Physio in a Private Clinic. She was very sociable and developed friendships with people from all backgrounds and places throughout her life. At her 80th Birthday Party about a third of the guests were people she had got to know in the previous 5 years, and she was meeting new people up until Covid. She was very keen on healthy living and did Yoga and played Bridge, where her keenly competitive nature came out. During the latter part of her Physio Career, she worked as a Homecare Physio in Peterborough and finally in Waterloo retiring at 71, because she wanted to travel more with John. They went on an “around the world” cruise on a Bulk Carrying Freighter, which took 9 months, she said that the most surprising thing was how large the Pacific Ocean was. She often remarked on her good fortune as her children and their families had been happy in their relationships and careers. She had returned to England for several months to Nurse her mother Isabel Blaxill in her final illness, she had lost her beloved father Alec Blaxill much earlier in her life. Her brother Chris Blaxill and sister Janet Wright also predeceased her.
She was most appreciative of her wonderful Family Doctor, Dr. Julia Wilhelm and the staff at Luther Village. She is survived by her son Roger Dacre (Joe), daughter Annabel Hughes (Dan), daughter Tania Dacre-Ord (David), Grandchildren Ben Hughes (Grace), Elspeth Grace (Jeff), Victoria Ord (Brandon) and great grandchildren Emerson Grace, Beckett Grace and Matteo Hughes.
