Annie will be deeply missed by her beloved husband of almost 59 years, Ratko Loncar; her dear children, Stephanie Ostojic (Nick) and John Loncar (Katarina); and her cherished grandchildren, Daniella, David (Larissa), and Anthony Ostojic, and Luka and Sophia Loncar.
She is survived by her brothers, John (late Linda), Mike, Danny (Cheryl), and Steve (Jenny) Hecimovich; sister-in-law, Zora Hodak (Ivan); brother-in-law, Todor Loncar (late Zorka); and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Dane and Barbara (née Rozic) Hecimovich.
Annie was born and raised in Welland, Ontario, where she lived until moving to Toronto for post-secondary education. Grounded in her faith and strong desire to serve others, she pursued a career as a Registered Nurse and graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1964. After finishing school, she briefly worked on the Medicine and Labour and Delivery floors in Sarnia before moving to Kitchener and devoting the rest of her career to the Emergency Department at St. Mary’s Hospital. Even after her retirement, caring for others was a significant part of Annie’s life; she was affectionately known as “Nurse Annie” to Sunnyside staff and residents in her final days.
Outside of work, Annie always kept busy with her many hobbies, especially those that allowed her to express creativity, like knitting, sewing, and gardening. She loved decorating for all holidays, though nothing compared to the magic of her house at Christmas. She was an avid reader and sports fanatic; a typical afternoon was one spent sitting with a coffee and a good book, while watching golf, tennis, or football. Often found in her kitchen, Annie also enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. Whether you were stopping by for a quick hello or invited over for a full meal, Annie always made sure there was something for everyone and no one left hungry.
When not at home, Annie enjoyed many years of travelling with her husband. They were known for spontaneous road trips and shopping excursions, always looking forward to the next adventure; however, some of her most treasured travel memories were family trips to sunny destinations.
Above all, Annie cherished her family and valued spending time with loved ones, especially her grandchildren, no matter the occasion. A proud mom and ‘Baba’, Annie was her family’s biggest supporter; no success was too small to celebrate with her unwavering love and no challenge was too big to be lightened by her comfort. She will be missed beyond words and always remembered.
Annie’s family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Woodside at Sunnyside Home, especially Anica, Shannon, and Linda, for their exceptional care, compassion, and kindness during her time there.
In keeping with Annie’s wishes, a private ceremony and burial has already taken place.
