Billi-Jo Jessica Barry

31 July, 197819 November, 2021

Billi-Jo Jessica Barry, of Cambridge, passed away unexpectedly early Friday, November 19, 2021, at the age of 43.

She leaves behind her parents William and Jessie Barry. A cherished sister to Rhonda Van Belleghem (Mike), Cheryl Barry (Carlos Mayers), and a much loved aunt to Alex and Kassandra Van Belleghem. Also leaving behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends from all over. She also leaves behind her fur babies Ruby and Benny, and her feathered babies Sarah and Pearl. She was born with so many obstacles but accomplished so much in her 43 years. Graduating Conestoga College, attending Carlton University in Ottawa on her own, being able to do things with only her mouth that most of us take for granted using our hands. She was born with a condition called arthrogryposis. She had no use of her arms or legs and was confined to a wheelchair. She brought joy and was admired by so many friends and family. An amazing woman who will be sorely missed. Leaving us all to mourn her bigger than life presence.

Cremation has taken place. Billi-Jo's family will receive relatives and friends at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900), on Thursday, November 25, 2021 from 6 - 8 p.m., where the Memorial Liturgy will be held in the chapel on Friday, November 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. The service will be viewable on Facebook Live through Jessie Cutler-Barry’s Facebook. Please note: proof of full vaccination, along with government issued ID, are mandatory to attend indoor funeral services for those age 12 and older. Masks are required.

I had such fun with B.J.
From the drag queen show we went to to the late brunches we took in Galt together.
From the good advice and neat ideas to the science project worthy meals I helped her prepare she will always be remembered.

I am so very happy that I could be a part of Billi-Jo's life for 7-1/2 years. Those were very special times for me when we shared closeness, thoughtfulness, happiness & inclusions into her family life. She was the perfect example of a child/person that took each day & filled it, impressively, in a way only she could deal with, and a smile & giggle at every obstacle. I was very proud of her & was thankful that we continued to keep in touch for a few years after. Christmas lunches, hugs, at 'the 50's Diner' will always be precious to me, along with her get togethers to visit & show off her 'special friends'.
My Love & Prayers to you Jessie, Bill, Rhonda & Cheryl.

I went to highschool with BJ and have thought of her often and crossed paths a couple times with her since. She always had a gentle disposition and a great smile and laugh. She was very easy to get along with and quick to make new friends. I have great memories of lunch period chats and playing cards. I’m very sad to hear of her passing and my heart goes out to her family.

It saddens me to hear this news, BJ and I were great friends during elementary school. I stayed many nights at her house and got to know her family deeply.

I am so sorry for your loss and wish I was in Ontario to attend the funeral, please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

BJ was my classmate and friend all through elementary school.
I was thrilled to reconnect with her on Facebook decades later, and was not at all surprised to learn that she had gone in to do cool things in post secondary school. I remember her being so determined, kind, and friendly, and was happy to hear that she continued on that trajectory.
My sincere condolences to her family and friends. She was a remarkable person who won't be forgotten.

I met BJ when she came to live at Carleton to go to school. I was one of the attendants getting her up in the morning, or helping her at lunch. She was always looking for ways to be independent or more independent. She had questions and was not afraid to ask them! Your smile and laugh will be missed.
