Diane Deguire

Diane was born on December 13, 1944, in Sudbury, Ontario, to Aldoria (Quenville) and Wilfred Levert, both predeceased. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Roger and Robert Levert. She was a very loved sister to Claudette of Abbotsford, BC, and Richard Levert of Sudbury, Ontario.

Diane met the love of her life, Leo Deguire, and within a year they were married in 1965, beginning a life together that would span more than five decades. Leo predeceased Diane on March 21, 2022. Together, they built their home in Minnow Lake, where they raised their three daughters: Susan of Edmonton, Alberta; Lisa of Burlington, Ontario; and Tina (Les McDonald) of Terrace, British Columbia.

Above all else, Diane loved her family. She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren — Steven, Shannon, Melissa, Bryson, Taylor, Kiera, Brooke, and Troy — and was blessed to see her family grow to include many great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love that will live on through each of them.

One of Diane’s most treasured places was the family cottage on Otter Lake at TR109. For more than 20 years, it was her sanctuary and her second home — a place filled with family, memories, and the peace she loved so much.

Diane worked as an accountant until her retirement in 1991. In retirement, she and Leo became snowbirds, first travelling to Sun City, Arizona, and later to Zephyrhills, Florida. Wherever she went, Diane found ways to give back, volunteering at local hospitals and childcare centres.

Her years in the south also brought two passions into her life: golf and writing. Diane became an avid golfer and even earned plaques commemorating holes-in-one on two separate occasions — an accomplishment she was rightly proud of. She also took writing classes and discovered a wonderful way to preserve and share her memories. She wrote beautiful stories for friends and family and often sent letters to her children and grandchildren — gifts of her words that are even more precious today.

Those who knew Diane will remember her as someone who never forgot. Birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions — Diane remembered them all. She was extraordinarily giving and had a way of making holidays and celebrations feel special. She showed her love through the things she did for others, through traditions, thoughtful gestures, cards, letters, and the countless ways she made the people in her life feel remembered and loved.

The final seven years of Diane’s life were stolen from her by a disease that slowly took pieces of the woman we knew and loved. For her family, it became the longest goodbye. We mourn all that was taken from her far too soon, but today there is also comfort in knowing that goodbye is finally over.

Mom, we are grateful that you are free. We find peace in believing that you are whole again, reunited with Dad and safe in the arms of God.

Cremation has taken place. Family will receive guests at 12:30 pm on Saturday, October 17th at Simple Wishes of the North, 1106 Kingsway, Sudbury, for a memorial service at 1:00 pm. A joint burial for Leo and Diane will take place at 2:30 pm at the Civic Memorial Cemetery. Reception to follow at 3:00 pm at Simple Wishes of the North.
