K of C rinks to play shinny on; high school soccer and football fields to compete on; numerous choirs to sing in; classrooms full of students to teach; plays to perform; marathons to endure; gardens to tend to; winter slopes to hit; novels to read; Sauble sands to walk on with family and friends; flights to book so that a foreign country would be foreign no more; casual glasses of wine to sip with better half Sheri; MAC pals to get together with every Holiday Season; lame puns to exploit, just because; son-in-law Jon to be proud of; and of course, the apple of his paternal eye, Jocelyn, to love and share a rip-roarin' laugh with.

Gordon Andrew Cameron was born on St. Andrew's Day, Nov. 30, 1957, in Barrie, ON., to proud parents Jack and Eileen. He had a distinguished 29-year teaching career in Toronto and Waterloo Region, inspiring over that time thousands of students to pursue their potential. Gord also shored up the bass section of several local choirs over the decades. He also put in 25 years' worth of acting for local theatre companies such as the Elmira Little Theatre, Galt Little Theatre, and Guelph Little Theatre.

The guy was so many things to so many people but there were through-lines. "He was so... himself," says daughter Jocelyn. "My dad filled his cup in life, and had loads of friends, yet always appreciated his quiet times. He liked spaces to think, read and be still." His niece Natalie noted her uncle's "quiet pride," an admirable constant in his life. There was an easy elan to him. He was charismatic but, as per his natural way, to a sensible, measured degree.

Apropos of nothing and everything -- "Bah, humbug!" -- it has to be said that Gord was an excellent mimic, specializing in Alastair Sim's Scrooge character. Leaning on his acting chops, Gord would memorize and recite whole passages of that movie to the delight and laughter of anyone within earshot.

Gord passed peacefully in Waterloo on Tuesday, August 25. He leaves behind beloved daughter Jocelyn (Jon), treasured mate Sheri, seven adoring nieces and nephews, sisters Anne (Cyril), Jean, and brothers Don (Samantha) and Bruce.

And now, for the essential Gord, the known seasons have given way to a brand new one: never-ending joy coloured with the welcoming blue of a Lake Huron sunrise.

Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S, Kitchener for a time of fellowship and sharing memories on Saturday, September 12 at 10:00 am. Service will begin at 11:00 am.

The family wishes to extend their deep gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Hospice Waterloo Region for their compassionate care, not only of Gord, but of the whole family.
