Grace was the beloved wife and best friend of Michael Devoy. Together they shared 34 wonderful years and were married for the past 16 years. She was a loving and devoted mother to Alex and Vera Kostiuk and stepmom to Sean (Amanda Hutchings) Devoy.
She will be sadly missed by her siblings, Dean da Silva, Elda (Jim) Strome, Lisette da Silva, and Helena da Silva, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Grace was predeceased by her parents, Alfredo and Helena da Silva.
Grace devoted her career to teaching and genuinely cared about the students whose lives she touched. She was also a dedicated advocate for her fellow educators through her work with the teachers' union, always willing to stand up for what she believed was right.
She was passionate, outspoken, and never afraid to share her opinion. Grace loved a good debate and could always be counted on to speak her mind. She treasured time spent at the cottages in Bayfield and Wasaga Beach, where some of her happiest memories were made. She also loved to travel, especially returning to Portugal, the place that always held a special place in her heart.
More than anything, Grace will be remembered for the love she had for her family. She celebrated their successes, stood beside them through life's challenges, and made sure they always knew how deeply they were loved. Her kindness, strength, humour, and generous heart will be remembered by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Family will receive guests at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St., S., Kitchener, for visitation on Thursday, July 23, 2026, starting at 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. Inurnment to take place at Williamsburg Cemetery at a later date.
