

James was born on August 13, 1950 in Grenada. He worked as a Fisherman, Foreman at the Quarry in Telescope St. Andrews, and Bus Driver in Grenville where he was famously known as ‘Red Ting’. He immigrated to the United States where he worked as Personal Chef, Caregiver and Handyman.
Beloved father of Kurt Commissiong (Charlene), Keisha Commissiong-Branch (Robert), Atley Hosten, Audric Hosten, and Javel Logie. Also remembered by Kurt and Keisha's mother, Bridget Patricia Commissiong.
Loved grandfather of Keyshawn, Kameelah, Malkijah, Amaris, Anaiah, Desere, Zaidee, and Jabrina. Great grandfather of Elijah, Zion, Malachi, Mylz, Isaiah, Jasaiah, Tyson, Prince, and Versai.
James had a total of 19 siblings. He was the closest and the dear brother of Catherine Felix, Elsa Lord, Jenny Commissiong, Alan Hastick, Michael Commissiong, and Anne Rodney.
James had many nieces, nephews, and cousins from the Hasticks, Noel and Commissiong family.
Long time and devoted friend to John Dumont, Martin and the Brossman family.
Predeceased by his father Vonnie Hastick, mother Evodney Commissiong, and son Tolen John.
James will be remembered for his ability to make people laugh. He was a jokester to everyone he encountered and he loved to see smiles come from his presence. James left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He read his bible scriptures daily and was a devoted Christian. He loved spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren especially around Christmas time was an absolute joy to him. His love for gardening produced great crops. His passion for food and cooking great dishes is something his family loved. He loved the water and fishing. Although his love for water was one of his passions, it was not just any water, it was the salt water ocean in his land of Grenada.
James’ family will receive relatives and friends at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900), on Friday, September 26, 2025 with viewing from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m., where the funeral will be held in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow. Please join the family in the reception hall for refreshments and fellowship.
