BERSCHT, Jean Marie - Passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, after a brief illness, from the arms of her loving family to Jesus and a joyous reunion with her husband Ben (predeceased in 2000). Jean was born on April 28, 1927 to parents William and Edna Heller. She was predeceased by brother Bobby and sisters Margaret and Kathleen. Jean is survived by her children Carla Denomme (Paul), Cindy Mahn (Gary) and Barry (Donna). Cherished grandmother of Laurie (Jason), Kelly, Robyn (Serge), Jamie (Erika), Christopher (Allison), Daniel (Amelie) and great grandchildren, Abby, Andrew, Alex, Kaitlyn, Emily, Payton, Nathan, Ryan and Bennett. Jean was an avid reader and had a passion for the Golden Era of Hollywood Movies. She was an original "Bobby Soxer" of Frank Sinatra and a devoted fan of Big Band Music, Lawrence Welk, Daniel O'Donnell and the Blue Jays. Until recently Jean was involved in weekly card games, line dancing, group singing and daily swims at the Y.M.C.A. Her favorite activities were family parties and celebrations with the children. Jean was one of the oldest and original member of the Kitchener Unity Church. She regularly participated in Sunday Celebrations, accessing them through the internet when she was no longer able to attend the church services and was devoted to the Daily Word. Jean acquired an iPad at age 87 and utilized it daily to communicate with family and indulge her passion for reading. A special thank-you to longtime friend Jesse Hurst for her continuing, loving support for Jean throughout their endearing friendship.
Friends are invited to a celebration of Jean's life at the Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre on Tuesday, December 6th, 2016 at 10:30am. A time of fellowship and refreshments will immediately follow. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be at a later time. Donations to The Unity Church would be appreciated by the family and can be arranged at the funeral home.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors and the nurses of Grand River Hospital, 5 South and Freeport Palliative Care Unit, for their support and compassionate care. We would also like to thank and say goodbye to all the staff and new friends mom made over the past year at Highland Place Retirement Home.
