

Les (formerly of Toronto) passed away peacefully in the early morning of Thursday, 15 March 2012 at Parkwood Mennonite Home Waterloo, Ontario at the age of 97. He was born 18 September 1914, in Lewisham, England. Survived by loving wife of 66 years Ruth Thacker (nee I’Anson), son Bruce Thacker (Linda Penner), grandchildren Graeme and Linnea. Predeceased by his parents Bertram and Bessie Rose, brothers Bertram and Leonard, sisters Betty and Joan. He is survived by his brother Sidney, sister Doris, and sister-in-law Margaret (Bertram) and many nieces and nephews. Les served his country as a Quartermaster Sergeant in the 8th Field Company, Royal Canadian Engineers prior to and during the Second World War in England, Holland and North Africa. He was a long time member of the Masonic Order (Scarborough Lodge) and Royal Canadian Legion. Preparing and enjoying food, bowling, golfing with Ruth and spending time with family and friends brought him much joy. His sense of humor, his smile and wave delighted those around him up to his last day. The family greatly appreciates the kindness and support provided by the staff at Parkwood Mennonite Home, Waterloo. Your compassion and support will be remembered. A memorial service for Les will be held in the Chapel at Parkwood Mennonite Home at 1:00 PM on Saturday, 26 May, 2012.
