Born on December 16, 1935, and raised in Kitchener, Ontario, she was the sixth child of the late Gordon and Elsie (Hewitt) Eby. She is predeceased by her siblings Anne Millar (Doug), Ruth Hill (Murray), Gordon Eby (Marion), Ward Eby (Barbara), Foster Eby (Mary), and Timothy Eby, and is survived by her brother Gary Eby (Dorothy) and many nieces and nephews.
Throughout her life, Loella held various professional roles, including nurse, teacher, and librarian at the University of Waterloo Dana Porter Library. Adventurous and independent, she travelled to Thailand to teach and journeyed through Europe on her own. She earned a master’s degree in English. An avid reader, she enjoyed fantasy novels, children’s literature, comics, science fiction, and traditional stories from Canada’s First Nations. She also wrote poetry and children's stories. Loella will be fondly remembered for her sense of humour, love of animals, bright colours, and sweet tooth.
A funeral service will be held at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa Street South, Kitchener, on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at 1:00 pm, followed by a reception.
