April 30, 1923 - July 27, 2023
Loretta Waito (nee Fortier) of Kitchener, died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 100 years. Her husband, Donald Waito, predeceased her in 2014. She was also predeceased by her parents Isadore and Mina Fortier (nee Vaudry), and all of her siblings: Flora Cliche, Lawrence Fortier, Freda Edwards, Aurore Drage, and twins Rita Nighbor and Anita Lance. She is survived by her children: James (Peggy), Barry (Connie), Lyle, and Brenda Behrendt (Greg); caring grandmother to nine grandchildren, and great-grandmother to 12 great-grandchildren.
She blessed her family, friends and many other lives that she touched with a sweet loving kindness, many hearty foodstuffs whose recipes are still in use throughout the family, a memorable laugh which even in her last days brought her to her well-known tearful laughing gut-wrenching gasps over a funny moment which couldn’t be ignored. She was fortunate to have her wit and keen mind even through those last days in spite of knowing that her health was failing quickly. Her spunk and determination helped get her through her 100 years of life in our fast-changing world, doing things through her lifetime she would never have dreamed of in her childhood days.
It was only in her last few days that she did not completely read the daily newspaper, and in her sense of economy, she’d probably be upset she paid for them, and didn’t fully read them!
Interment will take place on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Woodland Cemetery, 119 Arlington Blvd., Kitchener.
