Very sad to learn of Mike's passing.

The first time I met him I was having difficulty adjusting a chair, looking like an idiot in the process, and he proceeded to deliberately adjust his chair, without saying anything, to show me how to do it the right way.

Mike always struck me as a kind and incredibly calm person.

My deepest condolences to the Morrissey family.

We are so saddened to hear of Mike’s passing. Like many others I know Mike from CW where our kids swam together for over a decade. Mike was a fixture at the pool and meets. Always warm and welcoming. Watching his boys swim so many races over the years- too many to count. He always had a smile on his face. He always seemed to be happy to just be there watching them swim. He was such a proud father, anytime you talked to him, his pride in his boys was what came through.

He will be missed by so many. Our deepest condolences to the Morrissey family.

We will always remember Mike. He was a passionate leader and a pillar of our Club Warriors family. As president of our Board of Directors, he put his heart into helping the club thrive, treating everyone like family. Serving with him on the board was an incredible experience—I learned so much from his leadership. I’ll never forget how Mike was a constant presence in the stands, always there to watch the kids swim. Mike’s dedication and warmth will be deeply missed.

I was very saddened to hear about the loss of Mike. My deepest condolences go out to Cynthia, Connor, Cameron, and the rest of the family.

I met Mike about 11 years ago in the UW swimming pool gallery when the Morrissey family was joining the CW swimming club. Right from the very beginning, we bonded and became friends; Mike was my 'swimming parent' buddy.

Throughout the years, we shared childhood stories, cooking and baking tips, and swimming news. We watched countless meets together and shared a lot of laughs. I knew I could always count on Mike, and he truly helped our family when we were in need.

I will always look fondly on the time we spent together.

Mike was a wonderful human being, and his family was the most important thing in his life. He was an exemplary dad.

My heart goes out to you during this incredibly difficult time. I hope you find some peace and solace in your memories of him.

Joey, Marie-Claude, Trestan and Kaleb

I had the privilege of working for Mike at BlackBerry and later at Arctic Wolf, reporting to him directly. Mike set a really high bar on how to be a great leader - he led with humility and compassion and humor and respect. Mike's legacy is raising a generation of leaders who all try to do the same going forward, the impact he had on our lives is immeasurable.

Like others have written, Mike was incredibly proud of his kids and talked and bragged about them all the time. It was clear to all that his family was at the top of his priority list.

My deepest condolences to the Morrissey family.

To learn of Mike’s passing was incredibly difficult to come to terms with. I had the privilege of working with Mike on multiple occasions and he was a fundamental part of my early career development.

Mike was an amazing mentor, colleague and friend. He was always there to listen, guide and offer support when I needed it and he was someone that always had your back when you needed it.

I will always look fondly on the time we spent together and I will miss him dearly.

Remembering Mike: a kind and caring colleague who made every day brighter. My sincerest condolences.

I am so sorry for your loss and so saddened to hear of Mike's passing.

I had the great privilege to work with and report to Mike at Arctic Wolf. I still remember the first meeting and speech he gave to the entire org when he joined and how thoughtful he was of the people and what had been built before him. His respect, compassion and passion shone through and you just knew you could trust him, that he was going to do good and uplift.

He very much led by example and it was a honour to learn from him.

I have no idea how he found the time for it all given the now obvious breadth and depth of his reach but he always did take the time to bond along with providing the gentle guiding hand and example.

Thank-you so much for sharing him with us.

Dear Morrissey family,

I was very saddened to hear about the loss of Mike. I had the privilege of working with him at Nuance, and I always truly enjoyed our time together. He was an exceptional technology leader, deeply respected by his teams and partners alike.

I have especially great memories of a trip we took together to Japan for partner meetings. The Japanese partners held Mike in such high regard. They valued his deep technical expertise, of course, but even more his presence, integrity, and humanity.
Mike was honest, genuine, and had a rare ability to connect with people at every level. He was sincerely interested in others, and many senior leaders today could learn from his example. Because of Mike, doors opened that otherwise would have remained closed.

I wish you all strength and comfort during this difficult time.

With heartfelt condolences,

Jeroen Kamphuis

I worked with Mike at Arctic Wolf where we didn't interact very often, but as I was learning my role he was gentle in his feedback and supportive in asking good questions to let me find the right answer and path.

It was after he left that we connected more - as my daughter joined the swim world, we would chat about swimming as we passed in the bleachers, talk about the boys progress, and he'd always remember my daughter and told me about how he'd seen her in meet mobile. He was always cheering in our swim group chat when one of our kids had events or big days.

He was a swim dad through and through, and as a swim dad I can only hope to achieve his level of passion and dedication and swim-dadness. I'll miss running into him and hearing the excitement and pride he shared and felt, and for the kind words and support he had for a new employee and a new swim dad.

I hope that Cam and Connor, in the sad moments and struggles in life, will remember and feel just how proud he was of them and how much he loved supporting them.

My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting Uncle Mike at Graham and Maggie’s wedding in July. I know that Graham loved Mike very much and that he will be deeply missed. Maggie has spoken of Mike as a fun loving and very giving person who helped her feel very welcomed in their family.
Our deepest condolences to his family. Our thoughts are with you.
Lynn and John Robinson (Maggie’s parents)

Mike had the best smile; one which reflected the person he was, always good natured, cheerful and kind. Mike was dedicated to his family and was a terrific Dad. I was blessed to have shared part of my life with him. My sincere condolences to his family for the loss of this good kind man who was taken much too soon.

I’m very saddened to hear of Mike’s passing. I worked with him at Nuance and have only good memories of him. His leadership style and positive attitude really made him someone we enjoyed working for.

We met Mike ten years ago and we were part of the same swim family ever since, watching our kids grow physically, emotionally and in their swimming skills. For me, personally, Mike was THE SWIM DAD, always in the best spot in the bleachers to watch his sons training or competing, cheering not only his kids, but everybody else in the team, keeping us, the parents, in the loop with their qualifications and achievements. Although a very busy man in his professional life – as I see from all the memories shared by his former colleagues – he didn’t miss any chance to be with his boys, encouraging and pushing them for new achievements. I still have very fond memories from our trips to Ottawa, Victoria or Windsor, spending time together both at the pool and outside, getting to know each other better. Mike was the one always with a smile on his face, with a fascinating story or experience to share, a pleasure to be around him.
I can’t imagine what the family is going through; I can only hope you can find some peace and solace in the memories that you shared together, so many of them. My heart goes out to you during this incredibly difficult time.

Rusu Family (Alex, Simona and Mihai)

We have such fond memories of Michael from our time together at Morrissey family reunions at our farm back in the 70's through to the many celebrations for the Morrissey clan into the 2000's. This is such sad news and we offer our deepest sympathies to Michael's family and friends. With love and prayers, Cindy, Terry and Victoria

And this is Mike delivering a speech in 2014 on our 25th anniversary in Budapest. Relaxed and friendly as always.

Funny. Working 4 years long closely together and finding a single strange photo where we were together. We could not win the selfie championship:(

Mike was a wonderful person, a truly remarkable personality.
He was Canadian through and through, with a big heart and a deep sensitivity to social injustices.

Always cheerful and balanced, he also had a great sense of humor that made every conversation enjoyable. It was a real pleasure working with him.

During his visits to Budapest, we spent many hours talking about company events, world politics, his experiences in the kitchen, and our families. I learned a great deal from him and valued those conversations immensely.

He was far too young. I can still hear his voice and clearly remember his smile.

His passing is a tremendous loss.

Mike was not a boss, he was a friend. I will miss and remember him forever.....

Our family sends condolences, prayers and love to Mike's family. No question a big loss, his fun and steady presence will be missed by many.

Lucky to have shared some time with him. What a privilege.

Love and prayers
Harris family (Penelope, Jonathan, David, Madison and John)

So sorry to see this news. I remember Mike fondly from his time at Descartes, and notably as his teammate on the Company entry into the “High Tech Hockey League”. A genuine, pleasant and decent man.

He will be missed.

My condolences

I was deeply saddened to learn of Mike's passing.
During our time together at Nuance, I had the privilege of knowing him as an exceptional leader, a true visionary, and above all, a wonderful human being. Although I only had the opportunity to learn from him for a short time, the knowledge and perspective he shared with me will stay with me forever — and for that, I will always be grateful.
Mike's memory lives on in everyone he touched.
My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. Godspeed, Mike.

I am so sorry to hear this terrible news. Mike and I worked together for many years, and kept in touch since then, especially when the Bills played the Dolphins. A true gentleman, who never stopped talking about his boys. May his memory be a blessing.

I was so sad to hear of Mike passing and being taken away so early in life.

I worked with Mike at Perspecsys when he led our engineering team through a crucial technology transformation phase that enabled the next stage of the company’s growth. I remember Mike as a very compassionate and intelligent man combining deep technical insight with a calm and thoughtful leadership style that earned the respect of everyone around him.

My thoughts are with Mike’s family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of working with him. He will be greatly missed.

Mike was my VP for a short period of time when I started at RIM. He always had a smile and an open door for anyone in the office. I never saw him angry or even upset, he was what you wanted in a leader, a good person who saw everyone as equal and would take the time for you. My condolences to the family, he will be missed by many.

I was very saddened to hear of your loss. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Even though we worked together in the past (RIM), I remember your kindness and the positive impact you had on those around you. My thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.

We are so sad to hear of Mike’s passing. We met Mike through our children’s swim club, Connor and Cam and our older son growing up together at the pool over the past twelve years. So many memories through years swim races together! We always remember how Mike was a dedicated dad, supportive Club President and a caring friend. His infectious giggles and humors are our fond memories. Our sincerest condolences to Cynthia, Nina, Connor, Cam and the whole family.
Rest in peace Mike.

Morrissey Family.

My sincere condolences to all of you and may lord give you a strength to deal with the loss.

I had the pleasure of working with Mike at Arctic Wolf. He was a very compassionate and supportive leader and I truly remember him as a caring human being. I am grateful to Mike for supporting me at Arctic Wolf and deeply saddened by his departure.

May his soul rest in peace.

Cynthia and family, I’m very sorry to hear about Mike’s passing. I worked with him for only a few months at BSM and then Geotab but in that time I learned many lessons from him that I try to apply in my own career. My sincerest condolences.

I met Mike at Descartes two decades ago, and from that moment on, he changed the trajectory of my life. To the world, Mike was a brilliant leader at Blackberry, Perspecsys, and Arctic Wolf. To me, he held a rare and vital dual role: he was my "work dad" and my "work best friend."

Having lost my own parents young, Mike stepped into a professional and personal void I didn’t know could be filled. As my mentor, he didn’t just offer advice; he championed me with a fierce loyalty. He campaigned for me to reach roles like Chief Architect and CTO because he saw potential in me that I hadn’t yet seen in myself. He was the kind of leader who went to bat for his people every single day. He prided himself on helping others achieve their full potential, often by acting as a shield—quietly guarding us from the "politics" of senior leadership so we could focus on what we loved.

As my friend, he was my emotional rock. In the high-pressure world of tech, Mike was the person I could lean on during the hardest times. No matter how intense the stress, he led with a constant, infectious smile and an unwavering focus on the positive. He was an inspiration not just for what he achieved, but for the grace and kindness he maintained while doing it.

Some of our most meaningful conversations, however, had nothing to do with software. Because our kids were so close in age—Connor and Cameron being just a year older than my own two children—Mike became my guide through the world of parenting. Over twenty years, we shared the experiences, the laughs, and the challenges of being fathers. I will always remember the immense pride in his voice when he spoke about his sons' progress in swimming and, more importantly, the compassion they showed their peers.

Mike, thank you for being the wind at my back for twenty years. You were my mentor, my protector, and my friend. Your influence is woven into every success I’ve had, and your kindness is the standard I will strive to meet for the rest of my life

I met Mike through our children’s swim club. I always remember seeing this swim dad with the fluorescent green shirt cheering all the kids on during their races and never missing recording one of his sons races! We quickly became swim meet buddies, getting to the pool early to get the best seats, cheering for all of the kids together and solving all of life’s problems in between races.

Mike was always positive and had a wonderful outlook on life and his family meant everything to him.

My sincerest condolences to Cynthia, Nina, Connor, Cam and the whole family.

Mike will be deeply missed and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rest in peace Mike.

Lisa, Josh and Owen

I was truly heartbroken to hear about Mike’s passing. He meant so much to me not just as a boss, but as someone who genuinely cared. He always spoke so lovingly about his family, and those moments gave me a glimpse into the depth of the man he was. He never hesitated to share wisdom, encouragement, or simply a listening ear, and I’m grateful for every conversation we had.
My thoughts are with his family as they navigate this painful loss. I hope they find some comfort in knowing how many lives Mike touched, and how deeply he will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Please accept my sincerest, heartfelt condolences.

I worked for Mike and he was a true gentleman and friend. He cared for everyone on a personal level that he lead and served. Mike made you want to be a kinder person and a better leader to your teams. I will miss him and try to honour him the best way I know how by doing for others what he did for all of us every day we had the privilege to work with him. My deepest condolences and prayers of comfort and peace that surpasses all understanding at a time of unbearable grief and loss.

I don't know him personally, but from seeing the love his friends and family have for him, he should have been a great guy. And the photos of his memories show that he lived the life many dream of.

My deepest condolences to the family.

Mike was an exceptional boss who genuinely cared for his team and the people around him. He invested his time in mentoring and guiding others, and his fun, infectious giggle made him someone you never forget.

Praying for peace and comfort for his family and friends during this time of sadness.

I am so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I have so many wonderful memories with him from the past ten years we shared on the pool deck as parents. He was a dedicated dad and a loving husband.
Cynthia and family, please accept our heartfelt condolences.
Mike, rest in peace. 🙏
Nan

I am so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I have so many wonderful memories of my time working with Mike at RIM.

He inspired me in many ways and I will be forever grateful.

Mike was a truly wonderful person and I will miss him greatly.

I had the pleasure of working with, and for Mike many times throughout my career, and would do it all again in a heartbeat. He was a great leader, mentor and friend; always building people up and always willing to help when we needed guidance or a helping hand.

Mike loved his family so very much, and spoke of you often. My deepest condolences on your loss.

I feel like we have been part of the same swim family for so long… Mike has watched my children grow up at the pool while I had the honour of watching his. His ability to a be father, swim taxi driver, club president, husband and friend is something to be admired and cherished. I will remember our time shared on deck, in the stands and at gatherings large and small. I will hold onto these memories fondly. Mike will be missed for all these things and more. I send my heartfelt condolences to Cynthia and his family. I am here whenever any of you need anything.
Allison Meklensek (and Lexi, Leah and Tori)

How to add words when there are no words that suffice? I've been blessed with a storied and rich career in software technology and innovation, enriched with great people that I sensed how to work with and get the best out of.

And all of that is thanks to Mike - friend, colleague, mentor, manager, inspiration. I was just the other day referring to what he taught me, as I still do, 2 decades later. Not enough know what a great force of good he was in helping people build wonderful things and feel enriched with the work they do. But that was Mike. Grand in result, humble and human and easygoing in character. His office and his smile were open to anyone and everyone, equally.

My heartfelt condolences and wish for peace in this difficult time to Cynthia and his children and and all his family.

My heartfelt condolences to Cynthia and family. I am so sorry. Mike was a great guy.

Mike made the job fun. He was never opposed to a little humour or the odd prank....and more then once he participated.

I am so sorry for his family's loss. He was one of the good guys.

Really sorry to hear about Mike’s passing.

I worked for Mike and he was a really amazing leader early in my career.

I’ll never forget the trip we took to Dublin for a project we were working on. We had a lot of laughs.

He was a great guy and I feel lucky to have learned from him.

Condolences to his family and friends.

So sad when I heard the news of Mike’s passing. He was a gentle soul who earned respect from people around him for the kind soul he was. He was a devout family man who often shared proud dad stories about his family. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

Mike was an incredible boss and friend for me at Arctic Wolf. I am forever grateful for all the support, guidance, and mentorship he gave me.

My favourite Mike quote from work "Be a Duck. Let it role off your back Dinah."

I also loved our shared joy in being swim parents. We would commiserate about the early mornings practice taxi services and revel in our kids success.

I was very saddened to hear of his passing. My deepest condolences to you and your family. I’ll be out of town during the memorial service and won’t be able to attend, but I’ll be thinking of you all and holding you in my thoughts.
