Michael Leonard Stredwick

Just five days after saying goodbye to his beloved wife of 53 years, Linda, Mike left this world, leaving behind a family who takes comfort in knowing they are together once again. Mike was the devoted father of Kirby (Krista) and Clinton (Leanne), and the proud Papa of Lauren, Thomas, and James. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his sister, Michele Othman (Sirat) of Malaysia, as well as by his extended family and many dear friends around the world. Mike was predeceased by his beloved wife, Linda; his mother, Yvonne Curnow; his stepfather, Jim Curnow; and his father, Leonard Cox.

Born in England, Mike immigrated to Canada in the late sixties and settled in Kitchener, where he built a life centered on faith, family, and friendship. He spent more than twenty-five years working at J.M. Schneider, where he was respected for his strong work ethic, reliability, and quiet dedication. Alongside Linda, he was an active member of the Lions Club, where they supported numerous community initiatives, formed lasting friendships, and created countless cherished memories.

A man of deep faith, Mike was a devoted member of St. George’s of Forest Hill Anglican Church. He faithfully served as Church Warden for six years and especially enjoyed the fellowship shared at the regular men’s breakfasts. Together, Mike and Linda quietly lived out their faith, reflecting Christ’s love through their kindness, generosity, and steadfast commitment to their church community.

An avid traveler, Mike embraced every opportunity to explore the world. Together, he and Linda travelled throughout Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, and the United Kingdom, creating memories that would last a lifetime. His adventurous spirit also led him on solo journeys to visit his sister and other family members in Asia and Australia, where he treasured the opportunity to reconnect with loved ones while discovering new places.

Despite his love of travel, Mike found his greatest contentment at home. An accomplished marquetry craftsman, he created many intricate pieces that will continue to be treasured by those fortunate enough to receive them. Mike was also the family’s trusted handyman. No matter the challenge, he was always ready to lend a hand, patiently fixing, building, or repairing whatever needed his attention. A lifelong reader, he also loved spending afternoons browsing used bookstores in search of his next great read.

Mike and Linda’s home was a place of warmth, laughter, and hospitality. Every summer seemed to bring visitors from overseas or the East Coast, and there was always a cup of tea, a cold beverage, and a meal waiting for anyone who walked through their door. Together, they created a home where everyone felt welcomed, well fed, and cared for.

Above all else, Mike’s greatest joy was his family. He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them—visiting special places, creating woodworking projects together, fixing things side by side, or cheering them on in their many pursuits. These are the moments his family will cherish most. Mike will also be dearly missed by Mork and Mindy, the two grey moggies who were his faithful companions and constant friends.

Family will receive guests at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900), for visitation for both Linda and Mike on Friday, August 14, 2026 from 1:00 - 3:00 and 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Cremation has taken place.

A service of remembrance honouring their lives will take place at St. George’s of Forest Hill Anglican Church, 321 Fischer-Hallman Rd., Kitchener, on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 10:00 a.m., with another service to follow in Newfoundland at Holy Cross Anglican Church in Eastport.
