Nicholas Anthony Osbelt

June 2, 1936 - April 6, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nick Osbelt, just shy of his 87th year.

Beloved husband of Elisabeth (Else) for 62 years.

Loving father of Greg Osbelt (Kathy), Sigrid Matchett and Nicole Richtaritsch (Steve).

Cherished Opa of Kirstin (David) and Alex Osbelt, Kyle (Candice), Tricia (Alex) and Ryan Matchett, Robert (Emily) and Jackie (Steven) Hinschberger and Stjepan (Sam), Andreanna, Tina (Jerry) and Stephanie (Jake) Ritchtaritsch.

Proud great-grandfather of Kasey, Cameron, Logan, Christopher, Luke and Dominic.

Dear brother of Richard (Ilona) Osbelt.

Predeceased by his parents Nick and Frances, his siblings Barbara and Herman and his son-in-law Ken Matchett.

Music was an integral part of Nick’s life, as was the German community in Kitchener. He was initially active in the youth group of the Schwaben Club and eventually made a switch to the Concordia Club where he spent several decades singing in the male and mixed choirs. He actively participated in camping at the Concordia Campground (loving called “the Farm”). He was part of the original Oktoberfest band (The Rythmic Five) and continued that tradition for 25 years in the tent. He sat on the Concordia Club board for many years.

Nick was proud of his long career as an insurance underwriter for Dominion Life and eventually RBC insurance. He was a man of many talents and could fix just about anything.

He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

There will be a brief visitation from 12:00 – 1:00 pm on Friday April 14, 2023 at the Westmount Memorial Celebration Center, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900). Immediately thereafter is a memorial service at 1:00 pm followed by a luncheon.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Mary’s Hospital MRI Fund would be appreciated by the family.
