Beloved husband of Esther Gawlik (née Herzog) for over 67 years. Dear father of Christine Gawlik, Stephen (Kimberley) Gawlik and Patricia (Ken) Bell. Loved grandfather of Kyle, Jayden and Noah. Dear brother of Mary Robson. Predeceased by his parents Stanley and Julia Gawlik, his brothers Stefan and Walter (Lina) Gawlik and brother-in-law, Jack Robson.
Steve was born in Preston and grew up in Guelph, finally moving to Kitchener where he was married and raised his family. He proudly served the City of Kitchener with the Kitchener Fire Department where he retired in 1993 after over 32 years. He spent his retirement golfing, travelling, gardening and was an avid "Solo" player. In his younger years he enjoyed snowmobiling, curling and bowling. Family was always Steve's first priority, and he will be dearly missed.
Steve's family will receive relatives and friends at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900), on Monday, June 1, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:45 p.m., where the funeral will be held in the chapel at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Carey Meadows-Helmer officiating. Interment will follow at Williamsburg Cemetery, Kitchener. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be appreciated to Innisfree House, 2375 Homer Watson Blvd., Kitchener, ON N2P 0E9, or to St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 54 Benton St., Kitchener, ON N2G 3H2.
