DAD
My earliest memories and thoughts of you,
were of a big man, so strong it’s true,
the invincible guy, the fearless dude,
a super cop, and on a Harley too.
I remember when you switched to the king size rigs, a befitting image for one so big,
driving that Mack with a trailer and pup,
one day I went with you, what a thrill, what luck.
I remember your hours were so long and hard,
just 8 hours between runs and then back to the yard, sometimes you’d get sleep, sometimes you would not, but that never stopped you; you gave it all that you’d got.
A dedicated man, a hard worker too, your taught me about ethics in all that I do.
I remember how we’d wrestle and you’d always win, how you’d pin me to the floor, so I joined the gym. Someday I’d beat you, I’d be stronger you’ll see, and when that day came you’d look up to me.
Time passed by and that day finally came, I beat you, I’m on top, you should be ashamed, but that moment wasn’t like that, yeah, I beat you its true, but I found myself still looking up to you.
You were always my idol and today that’s true too, so much that I am, was given from you, we didn’t often express it, but I believe it to be, that Dad I loved you, and Dad you loved me!!!
Love, your son,
Jeffrey
Everyone knew Dad in their own special way, but I think we can all agree that the best way to describe him is REAL.
Dad was a basic, down to earth comfortable guy.
He was always willing to lend a hand, but never asked for a lot of favours.
I want to ask you all for a favour for Dad. The next time you are in awe looking at the majestic beauty of a mountain, enjoying a long, lazy day at the lake drinking a cold beer and hooking a bass or two, or even if on a brilliant fall day you drive for an hour into the country side just to find that little place that sells the perfect piece of pie, think of Dad.
Take a moment and enjoy the simple things in life.
Dad loved a good night of cards and every once in a while he even let us win.
One thing I know is that Dad is with me and the rest of his family right now making sure we all play our cards right.
