

Carey, Mrs. Audrey Clift, passed away Friday, December 16 at her home in Knoxville.The youngest daughter of the late William Thomas Clift and Grace Wachs Clift, Mrs. Carey was born in St. Charles, Virginia and later moved with her family to Knoxville. She graduated from Friendsville Academy in 1947 and was married to her high school sweetheart, James Everette Carey, in 1949. After briefly living in Santa Ana, California while Mr. Carey served as a U.S. Marine, the family returned to Knoxville. While raising her family, Mrs. Carey was an active member of the Republican Party in Knoxville and worked with the Knoxville Police Department. She was actively involved in the choir at Inskip United Methodist Church, as well as with the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by her children Jack Mitchell Carey, Janice Carey Murr (husband, Donnie), and Susan Carey Davis (husband, Lance); grandchildren Lauren Rebecca Carey, Carey Elizabeth Davis, Natalie Grace Davis, Alicia Carol Davis, Taylor Clift Carey, and Brett Alexander Murr; sister Mildred McDowell; brother-in-law H.W. Lucas of Columbia, TN; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm Monday with the funeral service to follow in Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel with Dr. David Lewis and Rev. Cabel Trent officiating. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 pm Tuesday for a 2 pm graveside service at Lynnhurst Cemetery.
