

Elsie Dyer Beckler passed away on January 27, 2026, at the age of 100. Elsie was born on October 24, 1925, the youngest child of John M. Dyer and Nellie H. Dyer. Her memories included roller skating on Hinton St. and walking to the library downtown. She loved to read and loved music and singing. The Great Smoky Mountains and all of God's creation were very special to her. Elsie attended Mynders and Fountain City Elementary schools and was a proud Central High Bobcat, class of 1944. She worked at The Vogue shoe store on Market Square, Maime McCampbell's exclusive dress shop on Gay St., church secretary, local Western Union and also in New York City, and Dr. Range's office. Once her children were grown she worked the information desk at East Town Mall. Elsie taught children's Sunday School for over 60 years at Central Baptist Church of Fountain City, where she met Bill at a social. They were married in 1948 and were sweethearts for 62 years until his passing in 2010.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, William T. "Bill" Beckler; son, Mark Beckler; siblings and their spouses, Helen and Ken Heck; Bart and Therese Dyer, Stella and Roy Chadwick, and Mildred and James Shearer. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Steve) Gentry and many special nieces, nephews, friends, and family near and far.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, February 3rd from noon-2pm at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home with service at 2pm led by Rev. Ron Mouser. Graveside service will immediately follow at Lynnhurst Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Baptist Church of Fountain City, 5364 N. Broadway St., Knoxville, TN 37918.
