Harold James Jeffers passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He has gone to be reunited with his beloved wife, Barbara Ann Jeffers, who was the center of his world.
A man of quiet strength, dedication, and deep integrity, Harold James Jeffers spent his life building a foundation of love and safety for his family. He was a devoted father who worked hard to provide a beautiful childhood for his children, teaching them by example what it means to be kind, steady, and true.
Some of the family’s most cherished memories are the simple Sundays spent together, driving away from the noise of the world and into the peace of the Smoky Mountains. He loved nothing more than packing up the car, picking up a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken, and driving the loop at Cades Cove to sit and eat by the rushing river with the people he loved. He was the ultimate protector and guide, and those mountain rides will forever remain a testament to the peace and happiness he brought into his home.
Not only was he a devoted father, but he was also an extraordinary grandfather, affectionately known as “Papaw” not only to his grandsons, but to many of their friends as well. He never met a stranger and always made everybody feel welcome in his home. Whether it was sharing a meal, offering advice, or simply sitting together in quiet conversation, he made people feel safe, loved, and cared for in a way that will never be forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his wonderful wife, Barbara Ann Jeffers. He leaves behind his daughters, Jayma Jeffers-Branam (Joe) and Kimberley Jeffers-Douglas (Gary), who carry his goodness, his grit, and his beautiful legacy forward into the world. He also leaves behind his beloved grandsons, Anthony Lieben, Jordan Craig (Hannah), Christopher Long, and Joshua Craig; several great-grandchildren; brother Lynn Jeffers (Rosa); and sister Kay Jeffers, all of whom were deeply loved and will forever carry his strength, kindness, and love with them.
Though he has taken his final journey past the valley floor and into the heights, his strength and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Family and friends will meet for a graveside service at Leach Cemetery, 1030 New Clear Branch Road, Rocky Top, Tennessee 37769 on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 11am.
