Irene Thompson passed away Friday, August 21, 2015. Irene was a member of Powell United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Central High School and later studied business. She retired as a buyer from Martin Marietta, where she worked since 1949. Irene played tennis until the age of 82. She also enjoyed traveling, reading religious history and teaching Sunday school.
She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew J. “Jack” Thompson; her parents, Pearl Mitchell Kempton and Stoke Reuben Kempton; and brothers, Bennie and Harley.
Survivors include her son, Stephen Gentry and his wife Lisa; brother, Reuben and wife Paola, of Italy; step son, David Thompson; step daughter, Carol Wood and husband David and their family; plus many special nieces, nephews and cousins. Her neighbors at the Villas of Barrington were very special.
The family will receive friends, 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home on Adair Drive. A Graveside service will be held, 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, in the Mausoleum Courtyard of Lynnhurst Cemetery. Everyone is asked to assemble at the gravesite by 10:45.
