

Jack A. (Basil) Barnes, age 84, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, May 4, 2015. He was retired from The City of Knoxville Police Department where he was in Fleet Management Services. Jack was an outspoken advocate for the Knoxville Police and Fire Departments and was a prominent political figure. Preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Sara Lane Barnes, and parents, Basil and Thelma Barnes. Surviving Daughters: Jackie Barnes Crabtree and husband Michael, Carol Barnes Sanderson, Kim Beeler Pratt and husband Randall, and Dana Barnes Hurst; Grandchildren: Kristin Vanzant and husband Darrell, Tony Crabtree and wife Krista, Cali Bolinger and husband Will, Aaron Sanderson, Leigha Beeler, Lori Beeler, Leslie Skeen and husband Zach, Ali Shelton and husband Johnathon, and Abbie Hurst; Great-Grandchildren: Emma Lynn, Mac, Lydia, Arianna, Coleman, Eli, Evin, Jackson, Baxter, and Barnes; Brother: Ronnie Barnes and wife Brenda; Sisters: Joanne McBee and husband Ray, and Judy Barnes. The family will receive friends from 4 – 8 p.m. Friday at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home. Funeral Services 5:00 p.m. Saturday at Berry Lynnhurst Chapel with Reverend Ronnie Barnes officiating.
