

DELK, JAMES HARRISON - age 90 of Knoxville, passed away at 6:00 a.m. Monday 7, 2012. James served in WWII (1942-1945) in the 5th air defense wing, 66th air fighter wing, headquarters of the 30th infantry and 8th army air corp. He was a recipient of two bronze stars, awarded the Purple Heart, battle campaign Central Europe, Air Offensive Europe, EAME Theatre Ribbon, Good conduct ribbon, Combat infantry badge, Rifle marksman and numerous other medals. He was lucky to get to travel to Washington D.C with the Honor Air Society which he truly enjoyed. He was a Boy Scout Master troop 149, little league baseball coach, retired from the L&N railroad which later became CSX . He was a member of the Bright Hope Masonic Lodge #557 for over 50 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #2. He is survived in death by his loving and devoted wife Jessie Delk (Jessie L. Bowling) of 64 years, sons Bruce Delk and Terry Delk, daughter-in-law Denise Delk, grandson Joshua Delk and nieces Sara Delk and Hannah Delk and special friend and sister-in-law Betty (Moses) Bowling and family. Family will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home (2300 West Adair Drive – Knoxville) on Wednesday May 9th at 6-8 p.m. Graveside services with full military honors provided by the Volunteer State Veterans’ Honor Guard held at East Tennessee State Veterans’ Cemetery 2200 East Governor John Sevier Highway on Thursday May 10th at 1:30 p.m. Arrangements by Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 2300 W.
