Joy Michelle Woods

Joy Michelle Henderson Woods, age 58, of Knoxville, was called to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from Saint Thomas West Hospital, Nashville, TN. After battling heart failure for several years, she has now been made whole and is resting safe in the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior.

From the moment she was born, she was her mother’s “Bundle of Joy”. Her name always fit her perfectly as she had a way of spreading joy, love, and happiness to all those around her. Joy never met a stranger and made friends everywhere she went. She had a kind and caring heart, full of compassion for others. Her generosity was unparalleled as she went out of her way to help anyone she could. Joy was truly a joy!

Joy was a longtime member of North Acres Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and used her talents to serve Him well. For as long as her health allowed, she joyfully helped with VBS, hospitality services, and Women’s Ministry. She was a blessing to many.

She devoted more than 20 years of her life to her career at Pilot Corporation. She relished her work as an Analyst immensely, so it never felt like a job to her. Joy’s coworkers were like family to her.

She loved crafting and enjoyed creating beautiful seasonal wreaths to share with others. When she was able, she also loved baking and cooking for friends and family. Joy had a passion for all things Christmas, the Grinch, Snoopy, and the Texas Longhorns. Hookem Horns! Who will count down the days to Christmas for all of us now?

She is preceded in death by her daddy, whom she adored, James Henderson and her beloved fur baby and faithful companion, Toby.

Those left to carry on her legacy include: Her devoted and loving mother, Judy Henderson; her best friend and sister, Janet Henderson; her nieces whom she loved and cherished as if they were her own, Rachael Ramsey (Isaiah Parrott) and Rebecca Cantrell (Michael); her very special friend, David Porter; her North Acres family, her Pilot family; a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a multitude of friends who became family.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at North Acres Baptist Church, 5803 Millertown Pike, Knoxville, TN 37924. A celebration of life will immediately follow, with Pastor William Purvis officiating. In recognition of their devotion, honorary pallbearers are: Rick Wood, Larry Wood, Isaiah Parrott, and Michael Cantrell.
