

Greene, Joyce Roe, age 83, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 12th following a courageous battle of over fifteen years with Alzheimer’s disease. She was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many, and a beautiful lady respected and honored by so many in the community. Joyce was the matriarch of her family, lovingly known as Mimi, who will be greatly missed by all whose lives were touched by her.Her husband, John H. Greene, preceded her in death on June 30, 2007. Joyce was born May 8th, 1930 to the late Earnest and Nannie Roe in Alabama. She had six sisters and one brother who also preceded her in death. She left behind one daughter and four sons: Eva and Tom Lodari, David and Cissy Greene, Mitch Greene, Chris and Lisa Greene, and Kurt and Stacy Greene. Joyce also left behind thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Joyce received a teaching degree from Berry College in Rome, Georgia. She received a Master’s from the University of Alabama. Joyce was a teacher and principal for Knoxville City and Knox County schools for over 40 years. Joyce was an active member of Washington Pike United Methodist Church for over 45 years. She taught Sunday school and many Vacation Bible Schools. Her family and friends will sadly miss her. On Monday, October 14th the family will receive friends from 5-7 pm at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel with the funeral service to follow. Rev. Greg Noble will officiate.
