Patrick Andrew Tarpy, born June 7, 1941, in Toledo, Ohio, went to his Heavenly Home on December 20, 2025, at the age of 84. He was a longtime resident of Tamarac, Florida, and a man of strong Catholic faith.
Pat graduated from Waite High School and proudly served in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1970—an experience that remained near and dear to his heart. He later retired from Broward County, where he worked as an electrician.
Pat took great pleasure in serving others. He volunteered his time running the Bingo Hall and the Food Pantry at the Broward County VA. In his spare time, Pat and the love of his life, Leslye, enjoyed traveling and spending evenings playing dominoes with close friends Rich and Renee Rubin, and Phyllis and Mike Slingbaum. He also enjoyed meaningful conversations with friends about current events, emerging technology, and everyday life.
Pat also enjoyed spending time at the family business, Everlasting Embroidery, where he loved visiting with his cousin, Gregory Gilbo, his wife, Norena, and their children.
Pat was deeply passionate about genealogy and dedicated many years to leadership within the community. He served as Treasurer of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Broward County (JGSBC) from 2013 to 2017. He also served the Genealogical Society of Broward County (GSBC) as Vice President from 2013 to 2014, President from 2016 to 2018, and Director from 2018 to 2019. During this time, he formed a dear friendship with Nancy Wyman.
Pat was an honorary guide for Honorary Flight South Florida, traveling to Washington, D.C., on a special mission honoring Vietnam veterans. He also dedicated five years to recruiting and enrolling veterans for Honorary Flight missions.
A valued member of the Kings Point Veterans Club Corporation, Pat served as a trustee from 2020 to 2022 and again from 2024 to 2025, and as Vice President in 2023. He contributed to fundraising, logistics, and seating coordination for annual galas. Pat was always known as someone who could be counted on—dependable, humble, and quick to recognize the contributions of others. He and Leslye especially enjoyed the theatrical and musical performances at the Kings Point Palace Center for the Performing Arts.
Pat was preceded in death by the love of his life (his Honey), Leslye Lehner; mother, Bracenia Hall Tarpy Kosinski; father, Patrick F. Tarpy; and brother, John Tarpy. He is survived by children, Patrick Tarpy (fiancé, Vanessa Lynn) and Shawna Tarpy (fiancé, Jeremiah Armstrong); the mother of his children, Shirley Tarpy; children by love, Glenn (Jean) Lehner and family, and Beth (Gary) Staffin and family; grandchildren, Hayden Tarpy, Jaylinn Stotz, Caitlyn Tarpy, and Nicholas Tarpy; nephews, John Tarpy (Kristy Sanders) and Ryan Tarpy; niece, Tonya (Mike) Gosselin; and sister-in-law, Debbie Tarpy.
Pat was known for his belief that if he couldn’t fix it, nobody could. A true man of all trades, he had the rare ability to repair, build, and restore just about anything placed in his hands. His knowledge, resourcefulness, and willingness to help others will be remembered as much as his kindness and integrity.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
