Eva Martinez Resendiz, age 84, of Harlingen, Texas, was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on February 6, 2026. Eva was born on August 16, 1941, in Rayón, San Luis Potosí. She was the second of ten children and learned early in life the meaning of responsibility, sacrifice, and love. Eva was preceded in death by her parents, Cenobio and Esperanza Martinez, her brothers, Mario and ElFego Martinez, and by her beloved daughter, Sabrina Resendiz.
Eva grew up in Harlingen, Texas, where she helped care for and raise her younger siblings, an early reflection of the nurturing spirit that would define her entire life. She dreamed of becoming a nurse and had a natural gift for caring for others, always offering comfort, patience, and compassion to those around her. Eva is lovingly remembered by her brothers and sisters, and dearly loved by her many nieces and nephews.
On May 28, 1968, Eva married the love of her life, Jose “Pepe” Hector Resendiz, and together they built a beautiful family in Harlingen, Texas. Eva was a devoted and loving mother to her daughter, Sabrina, and to her three sons, Hector (wife, Veronica), Eric (wife, Courtney), and Aldo (former wife, Victoria). She was also a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother to Tristen, Caitlyn, Aldric, Christian, Lauren, Dane, Camryn, and her precious great-granddaughter, Rilynn. Eva loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter more than life itself, and her family always knew they were the center of her world.
While raising her family, Eva worked in the cafeteria at Harlingen High School, where her kindness and warmth were felt by many. Even after retirement, Eva never stopped giving of herself. She embraced her role as “Grandma” with her whole heart, becoming the kind of grandmother everyone wishes they had. Her grandchildren fondly remember homemade lunches dropped off at school, being picked up and taken for raspas at the park, and cooking alongside her in her kitchen. Many Saturday nights were spent at Eva and Pepe’s home, where the grandchildren begged to stay the night, knowing they would be spoiled with her famous atole and soothed by bedtime stories as she lay on the living room floor beside them.
Eva found deep joy in cooking for others. She was well known for her special birthday cakes and her homemade Mexican dishes, each one prepared with love. Her kitchen was always full of food, laughter, family, friends, and warmth. Eva never met a stranger. Anyone who walked into her home left feeling like part of her family.
She was a light in the lives of everyone who knew her. Her love extended far beyond her immediate family, touching all who were fortunate enough to cross her path. Eva also had a special talent for caring for orchids and found great joy in watching them bloom by the large window in her kitchen, a quiet reflection of the patience and care she showed in all aspects of her life.
Eva loved to capture life’s moments so they could be treasured forever. She was rarely without a camera in hand. Her children and grandchildren cherish looking through her thousands of printed photographs, reliving memories and experiencing life through her loving eyes, one moment at a time.
A devoted Catholic, Eva found strength and peace in her faith and in praying for others. As she prayed for so many throughout her life, we now pray for her eternal peace and rest.
