

Frances was born on January 5, 1931 in Leedy, Mississippi to the late Alfred and Luetta Jeffryes Newcomb. She graduated from Glendale High School in 1949. She served on the student council, was captain of the girls’ basketball team, and was voted most athletic girl and most courteous girl her senior year. While in high school she met her husband of almost 70 years, James Marcus Wiginton. They traveled the world together while James was in the US Air Force, raising four children together, Jan, Kathy, Barry, and Larry. They settled in the Rio Grande Valley in 1971. She enjoyed walking whenever the weather was nice, spending time with her family and watching basketball. She was an avid Spurs fan and would stay up late into the night to watch them win. Go Spurs Go! She was a life long member of the Church of Christ, attending 8th and Harrison Church of Christ in Harlingen.
Frances is survived by her husband James Wiginton of Harlingen; daughters Jan Cromer of Ashland City, TN and Kathy Anderson of Memphis, TN; son Larry Wiginton (Theresa) of Kerrville, TX, and daughter-in-law Jennifer Wiginton of College Station, TX; eight grandchildren, Lesley Cromer of Smyrna, TN, Brian Cromer (Heather) of Cincinnati, OH, Laura Keho of Houston, TX, Tammy Moore (Matt) of Round Rock, TX, Lindsey Wiginton of Houston, TX, Zach Anderson of Memphis, TN, Ethan Anderson of Memphis, TN, and Catherine Smith (Neal) of Starkville, MS; and five great-grandchildren, Andrea Moore, Jordan and Caleb Cromer, Harper Anderson, and Olivia Keho.
She was preceded in death by her son, Barry Wiginton.
Frances will be interred at the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, TN. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Sunny Glen Children’s Home in San Benito, TX.
