Mary Louise McCarty

Louise, as most knew her, was born Mary Louise Williams on June 17, 1946 in Portsmouth, VA in a little community called “Cradock.” Cradock was named after a famous Admiral in the US Navy. She grew up and attended school in Portsmouth and moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1964 after graduation. She started her family and her career in Harlingen, Texas starting out as a bookkeeper for Valley Cable TV. She continued on as Business Manager for KGBT-TV from where she retired in 1997.

Retirement didn’t stop her from her hard work and dedication. Her true passion was serving God and she was his faithful servant for over 20 years at Abundant Life Church in Harlingen where she was the Sunday school secretary and part time bookkeeper for the church office. She had an incredible passion for her Abundant Life family and formed many close friendships there.

Her true blessings in life and that brought her tremendous joy and pride, were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was fondly known as “Gramma Carty” by her grandchildren and “Grammy” by her great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her Mother, Emma Harriett Williams; Father, Robert Lee Williams, Sr; Brother, Robert Lee Williams, Jr; Sister, Barbara Rosen; Sister, Emma Jean Williams and Niece, Gail Rosen.

Louise is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, John Lee McCarty; Daughter, Diana McCarty (Dale); Son, Mike McCarty (Katie); Granddaughter, Candice Esquivel (Rene); Granddaughter, Michelle McCarty (Kevin); Granddaughter Kaytlyn Montes (Rogelio); Grandson, Joshua Santillan (Samantha); four great grandsons, three great granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed by many, however; we take great joy and comfort in knowing she is in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior and one day we will be reunited with her.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Abundant Life Church (Abundantlifergv.org, 101 N. “O” St., Harlingen, TX 78550) or the Humane Society of Harlingen (Hshtx.org, 1106 Markowsky Ave., Harlingen, TX 78550).
