Clara Elizabeth Freeman

Clara’s life was rooted deeply in the community where she was born and raised. Her unwavering strength and compassion left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Known for her selflessness and resilience, Clara had a remarkable ability to care for others, often putting their needs before her own. She was the one who held things together when life became difficult and never hesitated to stand up for those who couldn’t stand up for themselves.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Melissa Wilkerson (Patrick) of Louisville, and devoted son, Glen Hitt Jr. (Amanda) of Pewee Valley. Clara’s legacy continues through her five cherished grandchildren: Andrew Hitt of Louisville, Katherine Moore of Eminence, Natalie Hitt of Virginia, Jessica Hitt of Louisville, Amelia

Ochsner of Pewee Valley, and one treasured living great-granddaughter, Emory Hitt of Virginia. She also leaves behind her dear brother, John Freeman Jr. (Betty), of Bedford, and her sister, Teresa Payton (Jack), of LaGrange. Clara’s extended family includes many nieces, nephews, and beloved cousins who will remember her with deep affection.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, whom she adored, John Robert Freeman Sr., a World War II veteran, and Cordie B of LaGrange. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Albert Thomas Freeman (Betty), of Crestwood.

A woman of faith, Clara found strength and peace in the saving grace of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She lived with the certainty that she would one day be welcomed home to heaven—a belief that brought comfort to both herself and those around her.

Clara Elizabeth Freeman will be remembered not only for the love she gave so freely but also for the courage and determination with which she lived each day. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.

A Visitation will be held at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home, 706 W Jefferson St, LaGrange on Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 11am 2pm with a celebration of life for Clara to start at 2pm before burial at Valley of Rest Cemetery in LaGrange.
