David proudly served in the United States Army before also serving his country in the Marine Corp Reserves. He carried that commitment into civilian life as well, remaining connected through membership in Chapter 454 VA and VFW Middletown Post 1170.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Gail Ann (Ferguson) Hiben; son, Brian Hiben (Jana Lambert); grandchildren, Taylor Brewer (Josh), Anthony Hiben, Isaiah Hiben, and Bentley Hiben; great-granddaughter, Ensley Woodson; mother, Sally Hiben; siblings, John Hiben (Jere), Margaret Natoli (Mike), Sally Grogan (Tim), Barb Hodgins (Tom), Mike Hiben (Paula), Renee Brozenic (Mark); and many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Michael Hiben.
David enjoyed a trip to the casino—playing slot machines, with Quick 7s being his favorite—and he and his wife would research the big hitters from the previous day, a small tradition that brought them joy. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. Above all, he loved being a Papaw to his four grandchildren and newest great-granddaughter.
Memorial Visitation will be held at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 706 W Jefferson St, LaGrange, KY 40031, on March 14, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA). Help.Dav.org
